Parking brake cable reconnect '72 FJ

Can someone tell me what the trick is to reconnect the parking brake cable to the brake shoe lever? Would think it should be pretty simple but I'm stumped.

Remove the shoes and springs. There's a small c-clip inside the backing plate where the cable comes through the tube, remove it. Pull (compress) the spring on the end of the cable back away from the lever then pull the lever back a bit while lifting the end of the cable out of the lever.

If you don't want to remove the cable from the backing plate, leave the c-clip in!!!!!!

Doh, shoulda figured that out on my own but many thanks for your response, makes total sense and much appreciated.

Just for more reference, the cable goes through the hole with arrow and sits into this little silver saddle part circled.
