Hi folks - my shift indicator lights on the dash have been intermittent for a while now and as a result, I am unable to hold First gear when L is selected (it shifts as if in drive).

now I am pretty positive that the issue lies in the 7-pin connector above the starter. When I wiggle it, I can get the lights to come on. I believe there’s probably some corrosion and a loose wire.

here’s where I need your take: what in the world is the splice in the pic below? Notice how one single black wire comes in from the transmission side, and splits into two, a black and red. I think the black is ground but I could be wrong. The red wire that circumvents the plug goes right back into the same wiring loom on the other side.

My truck has TVSS, could this be related? Nonetheless, I am pretty sure my issue is the fact that when this was spliced together, the rubber boot was removed from the plug, thus exposing the wires to the elements. Would like y’all’s opinion on what this could be.

and thanks to @gbell210 post back in 06 for helping me track down the issue to the 7-pin connector

to add to this, it’s a 93 with a442. No other accessories I am aware of other than alarm, though I am not the original owner.

also, some of the wires coming into the connector may be a little loose. I want to shove them in further and ensure they stick. Is there an adhesive glue of sorts suited for electrical connections y’all might recommend?

I think the blk wire is pin 2 on the diagram below. Maybe the pin in the connector is corroded out and so someone jumped the connector? Or lock on connector is broken and pin isnt making good contact?
Hope this helps

NSS.
What you have is jerry-rigged.
But I bet you know this, as evidenced by the lack of response to your 'query'.
