Remember going up Cadillac where that guy flipped?
Mrs. Chicago BAILED out of the rig at that point too despite the rain/ snow coming down out side of the nice cozy cab of the blotch rig. She wanted NO PART of it.

Anybody got a Lat & Long for this area so I can Google Earth it and "fly around"?

Ballarat is: 36 02.849'N 117 13.423'W

Thanks Dan!
Do you think I could pull my 21' trailer down there to a place where there would be a good place to base camp? Or is it WAY offroad and no way?

I'll let Jack chime in as he's been there and I haven't. But from what he said getting a full size RV to the camp area shouldn't be a problem as there were other types of rigs like that there.

So the plan, in so much as I know, is to set a base camp and then explore from there in the rigs sans trailers.

Should be no problem. I think the total dirt road (I wouldn't call it offroad) is probably about five miles. We were camped on the Surprise Canyon Road and there is plenty of room and there were numerous TT and 5th wheel trailers camped there. The diesel pushers didn't go quite that far, they stayed closer to Ballarat. Not to say you couldn't get one there, the road is really not that bad. Unless something changes, I am driving my truck/cabover down and Darcie is following in the 80. If the in-laws back out, then we won't bring the cabover, tent camping it is.

The plan is to set up base camp and explore out from there. The only caveat is that you should bring extra gas. The loop is probably 50+ miles total and the Goler wash is I think in the neighborhood of 40ish miles round trip. The only place that is close, 20 miles away is Panamint Springs, the problem is they don't always have gas.

Is it February yet?

I hope not, I don't have my Ham radio yet:grinpimp:

A little mouse told me you are studying for your HAM test. Good for you! I removed the CB last summer since everyone in our group has 2M. You're going to love it!!!

KOH starts on the 27 of february, who wants to head down there after this trip (since we're already down there?)

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to go on a fun trip with a bit of desert/rock racing at the end.

King of the Hammers - The Ultimate Desert Race - 2009

Sounds like a great way to cap off the trip, too bad I won't be able to make it. Have to be back to work.

I will give you a bit of advise, if you are going to JV, take a toilet facility of some sort. There isn't even a creosote bush to hide behind on the lakebed.

Hope I can still make this trip. I just found out that I'm not going to have a job come the 1st of the year. :frown:

Bummer. Are things that slow or what is the reason?

Good luck. I know it is tough for everyone right now.

yup, business is slow and they're cutting hours....
It sucks because there's a guy in the fishing department who is keeping his job just because he's full time. The fact that he doesn't know anything about fishing, has never been fishing, has been written up for harassment, constantly argues with the manager, and is lazy, doesn't mean a thing!

We call him the "cancer of the department" and yet he gets to keep his job while the part time guys with the knowledge to run the department get fired.

Makes sense to me. NOT! But based upon my experiences its pretty much how most corporations run themselves...

If corporations and government ever start making sense to you, you have officially lost your mind, or found the holy grail...

I was being facetious ;). The most logical and rationale decisions are many times the ones they don't make  Probably somebody's brother, brother-in-law, cousin, etc.
