I have Eshans top assembly and had everything powdercoated but am hesitant to drill holes in the windsheild frame and the side of the body for the top tie downs. Am I crazy? I think I'm going to sell it.

You built this truck to wheel Gary, you've already got a couple that are to pretty to scratch. Throw that top on there and enjoy it!
Gary.. Put in nutzerts . The stock FJ40's had the footman loops welded in place.. I know that's not an option but the nutzert would look much more clean. As far as drilling the holes in your windshield frame.. What did that frame look like before you started? I seem to remember a couple of holes from when it was in south america?
Go look at a few of the other club members FJ40's and see where the factory threaded inserts are on the top of their FJ40's put the nutserts in the same spot to hold the channel on.. Then when you take the top off you can install a channel to run a bikini top as well. That'll keep the sun off your ol noggin.
If you run the top it'll increase your use of the vehicle .. Granted you don't get the cold weather down there but if you relocate? You might need a top most of the year!

Appreciate the info and offer. What Gary and I are working on I don't think will be needing it though
Possibly looking to make some minor mechanical design improvements and a material upgrade on the top.

That's true, you have both the skills and equipment to make one from scratch. Weld up some bows and use your industrial sewing machine to make the top? What are you thinking about using for material?
I really like the bed cover that Ehsan did. He's making the tops with 20oz canvas in addition to the vinyl pictured.

I like those tops to...you never know, might have to make one of those also?
As far as material, not sure yet...I don't have one in my hands yet. I'm sure it will be some sort of canvas/vinyl stuff...
