Since I will soon be the proud owner of an Iron Pig rear bumper, i have a question:
Im buying one with the provision to add their swing away tire carrier at a later date ( budget concerns) since they build it special with the provision, i will get it
unpainted, and then the swing away unpainted as well. ( hello Holiday bonus)
any suggestions for coatings? duraliner? powder-coat??
rattle-can re-applied everyso often?

Powder coating is great, tough, looks good (give that factory like look) and should not set you back too much.

Professionally done..... $150 I'd guess.

YOu can powder coat at home. Get a gun and some powder and you can either spring for an oven (would be expensive to get one big enough for a bumper) or I've heard you can use high-intensity liquid crystal heat lamps to cure it.

Eastwood sells the heatlamp system.

I've never seen it done so I can't vouch for the results.

Por-15

I re-painted my home-made steel bumpers with POR-15. Having gone through the hassle and the cost (about $110 for prep chemicles, POR-15, POR-15 top coat) I would encourage you to bit the bullet and get it powder coated. If I could do it over again, that is what I would do. My paint job looks OK but you can tell it was a amateur job. And, I already have some dings.
