I'm talking to two different body shops about repainting an 85 4Runner. One sprays PPG waterborne (envirobase HP - I think) and the other sprays BASF R-M Diamont. Both are base coat - clear coat systems.

I've honestly had a lot of trouble finding any shop that will do an all over paint job. Both shops take everything off and we've discussed doing the jambs, etc. whether or not we change the paint color.

Anyway, just seeing if anyone here had any opinion on either of these systems.

the waterborne is just fine its the new eco way to do it. the other way is just the little older way to do it and it also is just fine. cant go wrong either way. as far as an all over paint job if you are changing colors i would do it that way including door jams and everything even dash but thats just me. as far as the same color, doing the door jams is still a good idea . look on craigslist there are people that will do it for you just check them out first and no money upfront at all. they are holding the fj so they dont need any money first. ask to see pictures of their work and maybe talk to a few people and see what they have to say
