We've tried going to the local parts place and talking to their paint guy for paint on the FJ55 but all we get are blank stares and dumb looks when we tell them the VIN color codes are 266 EA12.

Does anyone know of a site that will translate older Toyota codes to something that the parts guys can recognize?

I've tried the CoolCruisers website and the link they have as well and those codes do not produce the right colors. The "white" (EA12) Cygnus White translates to 0833 which the paint guys tell me is grey! The 266 code is not even listed (I'm guessing that it's the same as 621 (the truck was white/green two tone originally)!!

I used Cygness white on my hardtop, but I believe it was T-12. The guy at the auto parts store looked it up and got it right, that was PPG product. That was the only # I gave him?

Might want to try this website, hope it helps?

I'll try the T-12 again and see what happens. I tried the website that you've listed and that's where we got the 0833 code that the parts store tells us is grey!

do you have the paint code that was under the hood (if it's like an fj40). I recently told one guy I wanted dune beige and the three digit number, and the guy got it right. This number will translate into another code that is unique to the paint manufacturer. I have used ppg with good result, although I would think that all the big paint manufacturers would have good offerings.

One option would be to look through the color books that the paint stores have. The books have color samples with manufacturers and years offered.

My advice would be to make sure to find a good store that has knowledgeable workers. This can make all the difference.

Well the parts store guy is an idiot (no surprise when one starts talking 'Cruisers)! After asking for 0833 the other day and being told that was grey I asked for Cygnus White and was told the name is meaningless then I asked for T-12 and was told that was good so I ordered it. The printout for T-12 is headed 0833 Cygnus White!! Imagine that!

Now I just need the way to get them to give me the right green.

Cygnus White is not an fj55 paint. Sounds like you have fj55 color combination C2993. The basic two-tone paint is:

T 1453 Olympus White
T 303 Fashion Green

Furthermore, "pewter" is not an fj55 color--it is not even a land cruiser color. The correct code is T 1434 Gray Metallic. The rims will be T 1447 Gray. The instrument panel is T 1344 Black.

It seems that various land cruiser marketers make a lot of this stuff up as they go. Even the official TLC4x4 green fj55 postcard is not technically correct.
