I've negotiated this truck down to $9500 from a very high $12K. Have not seen in person, but considering having a mechanic look for me. Link and pics below. Price still seems high for the mileage (225K), but rust seems OK, and truck seems to be pretty clean. Just had brake rotors and pads done and fluids flushed. Clean Carfax. Tear in drivers seat and isn't working. Seller is open to lower price if mechanic turns up some issues. Is this worth the time and couple hundred bucks for a PPI? I'm in NY so shipping or renting a car to get won't be too expensive. 1997 Toyota Landcruiser · Sport Utility 4D. Thanks for any input.

Rust looks meh.... but then again Im in CA :). I would def say that 13 is too high. Has the head gasket been replaced? Have the mechanic do a compression test on the engine. Also make sure you’re getting vacuum on the throttle body. Does this guy have lockers?

Have him at $9500 now, a small amount of wiggle room if issues crop up in PPI. Has lockers. He doesn't know re head gasket, suspect not.

Yeah def figure out about the hg. Also compression test the engine... if you have to replace the HG it will cost you! And if it’s not been done than it most likely will given the mileage. But other than that in my mind seems like a fair price.

There are plenty of these rigs with 300k miles on the original HG. Without a known history, anything can be a crap shoot. Have the PPI done and trust your gut.

Saw this one today. A little rusty but not too bad from what I could see. Rear hatch was repainted and looks bad. Some loose/cracked exterior trim pieces. Missing the fog lights. I’m curious if you wound up doing a PPI and what it said?

The negatives from what I can recall, in no particular order, some of which I'm sure you caught. Keep in mind I never drove or saw in person:

-core support rusted through. cat and exhaust pretty rusty too
-one of the power seat motors or rails is out of wack
-sticky power locks
-right rear seat latch broken
-maybe valve cover gasket and power steering leak, but the guy said not too many leaks
-e brake may need repair
-sun roof seal

Guy said in general, this was fine. Brakes and shocks fairly new. I passed because the seller didn't move on price and turned out to be a bit rustier than I planned, a conclusion I came to after speaking with a couple MUD folks on that specific issue, this being my first 80 series. Of course, you'll get a wide range of opinions on rust, especially in our region, so take with a grain of salt. I myself go back and forth on how much to tolerate. Having to look outside of the Northeast, I've unsurprisingly had trouble finding one with none to very little before it sells quickly, and I'm not one to buy without having it inspected first. Hope this helps. The ad went down soon after I passed, so I assumed it had sold. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Here’s the current ad in case you want to follow up with him again.

I’ve been eyeing this one up as well. It’s been posted for a while. I’m about 2 Hrs north where it’s located. Seems like a lot of issues to address for the price.

If shipping isn’t a concern, then it shouldn’t be long until you find one fairly priced, here in the southwest, the rust is minimal to none. I got my 92’ for 2k and 150k miles with no rust. Kinda just a patience game
