We should consult a safety engineer to see if thats safe:D

I say no. What is keeping the d-ring from sliding off the spindle, while hitting bumps and changing the amount of tension on the strap? (please dont say the castle nut)

:flipoff2:

I'm going with the bearing race that is welded to the spindle. That, and the castle nut(thats probably welded to the race)

^ funny s*** right there.

If I must support my statement....I wasnt really thinking that the nut or race would come off the end of the spindle. But that the d-ring could slip over the nut, since the ID of the d-ring appears to be larger than the OD of the nut. As the 40's tires and bump stops compress and as the trailer suspension moves, the tightness of the strap could change and allow the d-ring to walk over the nut. Plus, going over the fender with the strap also pulls the d-ring off the spindle....

I would recommend a large washer or something that could be placed between the nut and d-ring that had an ID smaller than the nut/larger than the spinde, but an OD larger than the ID of the d-ring. :flipoff2:

Phew. now, I dont really give a s***, I prolly would have done the same thing. Im just busting balls :meh:

jeez....when did people start taking me seriously?

Wow....first off, 4rnr, we were just joining in on the nut bust fest

(Hmmm, nut bust fest, an new name for that lesbian music tour)

Anyway, I read that & thot for a minute I was on the "mini forum" on mud
only the explanation would have been 6 paragraphs longer, also explaining what ID & OD mean
And more in depth an explanation on the laws of physics
followed by 30 more, 6 paragraph long, rants from both the supporters & non- supporters of both Clints method & your reasons why it should fail

Just for the record, I never take any of you seriously,,,, seriously.
