I'm rebuilding the box on my 84 FJ60 due to massive leakage at the pitman arm. So, I tore the box apart tonight and it is obvious why there is a leak.

However, my question is regarding the power piston. When you guys are rebuilding your boxes, are you tearing the power piston all the way down to replace the teflon rings/o-rings? Or is everyone just replacing the rings that can be replaced without power piston disassembly?

My 60 was steering just fine prior to the leak, so I am kind of leaning towards leaving the power piston/worm gear all together? Feedback please.

I have only rebuilt one, and I left the power piston alone. There is a teflon ring on the end that I did replace. I also replaced the oil seals at the two shafts, and all of the body o-rings.
