Bloo,

I just got the word that their is a new rotation going into effect as of March 1st. I will be home till July, so I will be good to go for a Colorado leg of the Expo trip if it's still an option. I will also be up for a return visit to GMSTR in May.

Outstanding. I have the lead there, you have the lead back. Wait... I have 4 cylinders, you have 8, you know what I mean.

Cam is flying out, too. The airport is 30 minutes north so one of us can pick-up and drop him off. I'll put together a route plan this week and send it to you via email.

Bloo,

Do we need to pack anything for Cam? No I am not referring to a clean pair of underwear and a toothbrush, anything from IPOR?

Is Eric (Black - FJ) going with us?

JB,

Do you have any recommendations on scenic off-highway / trail routes for getting from the Expo to Durango CO?

Well according to Google Maps you will be coming through Flagstaff and Sedona, which is a very scenic highway drive. I recently got married in Sedona :). There are some great trails in Sedona, however just for fun/scenic -- they are not byways. The drive from Phoenix to Tucson on I-10 is boring as hell, but fast (75MPH).

If you want to REALLY lengthen your trip, try mapping out a drive that leaves I-17 at Camp Verde (after Flagstaff and Sedona) and take 260 to Payson and then 87 south to 198 to Globe. Then take 77 south through Mammoth and San Manuel. Around there is a road that should take you through Readington Pass all the way to Speedway Blvd. Take the left at Houghton and head south to I-10W which you can figure out from there.

I've never taken this route, but should be more scenic than I-10 all the way.

That's going kind of west... I was thinking 191 to 491 to Durango. Did that last year -- lots of wide-open spaces, neat elevation changes and terrain, insane pallet of colors, Shiprock, 4 corners, and one awesome canyon. Don't you want to visit 4 states at one time before getting to CO? If you turn off the CB you won't hear me tell you about the geology of the area so it won't be too bad. Cristo recommended the route to me and it was a great drive. I often owned the whole stretch of road for miles around. Epic.

I e-mailed Tapp around X-Mas and he was pretty busy at the time and was uncertain of his schedule, and all the other FJ Bruiser events had him occupied; I'll re-engage. Another ExPo forum member I ran into back in O'Fallon, IL last summer when I was at my 5th HS reunion said he might want to join us enroute. I'll email Vango (FZJ80) again with a possible meet day if he cares to join us.

I don't think there will be anything to haul but business cards and stickers. I mentioned to Lance to get some placemats made for your truck - I'll remind him again. I don't know where Cam is going to rack out yet - I'd suggest under your truck instead of mine - there's just too much head room under mine.

Recommended departure date and events via PM.

You mean this in NC... Expedition Portal Forum

...or perhaps this in VT... Expedition Portal Forum

IH8MUD has its purposes as far as a forum goes, but ExPo is more devoted to vehicle dependent travel. Check it out.
