I thought this might qualify for out of the ordinary...

Not mine... but I wouldn't mind the manual transmission... on road.

I didn't notice that. I was memorized by the electronics. The :princess: and I are talking about replacing the current music maker. :hhmm:

You know, the iPad Mini will physically fit in the space allotted for double DIN stereo. The problem I had with the mini was the screen wasn't bright enough. I have not had a chance to compare it to the new iPad Mini retina though.

Pretty cool. Did you see I was looking to get a Garmin DD replacement for the 100? Posted in electronics.
So I am considering an upgrade to my double din GPS equipped stereo in the 100.
The Eclipse I have only has 2 gig of flash memory and so it can not be updated anymore. The support site does not support files that small. There si even a link directly to the folks that make the maps and upgrades for TomTom (whose maps the Eclipse use) and they would not reply to numerous messages to their tech support. Too bad because I like the Eclipse.

I am considering a Kenwood since they use Garmin and Garmin has maps in the Philippines.

I already have a back up camera and I think those are pretty much generic.

I am looking for suggestions for what I might want in a Garmin supported double DIN receiver that has USB inputs, supports backup cameras and can play video DVDs and CDs. My speakers are stock and I think the factory amp is disconnected. Also, I am not an Apple fan so I do not have an I-phone. I use a Droid.

Recommendations??

Philippines has street maps now? That's already news to me.

I don't know enough to give a recommendation but what does appeal to me are these newish units that can MirrorLink to your smartphone. They have Garmin Apps for your droid as well.

Here's one by Kenwood:

They are still relatively new though... so I would expect some bugs with it all.

My concern with the Philippines would be Cell Data coverage and rates.

That is very true. Cell rates are wacky there. Especially for data. They have just now started to introduce real plans rather than the pay as you go sims. That is one reason why I find the built in Garmin so attractive. Also, as far as I can tell, Garmin is the only provider (other than Google) that has PI maps. That I know of anyway.

So I got tired of the nasty looking and forever loosening aftermarket radio antenna I mounted when I had to eliminate the powered OEM antenna apart of the snorkel install a few years ago.

Since the rig is down waiting for Fox to get parts kicked out the door I thought this would be a good time to remedy the antenna issue.

Here's the most recent post about this antenna install (for those without a snorkel): https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=9075615&postcount=2742 of Toyota OEM mast #86309-0C020 along with the base (includes integral coax and ground wires) #86300-0C010. It easily looks like it will do the job, be tolerant of the typical underbrush I seem to find and since its black its not very noticeable.

Sorry no installed pic...will add later...but here's a shot of the bracket I fabbed to support it with the TJM snorkel installed. I wanted to better support the antenna mast so I triangulated the support bracket...assuming you have a welder its a 1:banana: job.

Ok...a little Recaro feedback/report: 1/2 hour shake down test drive a couple days ago...and 4-hour's seat time yesterday apart of a longer shake down cruise since the front end put-back-together and Recaro Specialist M installation.

Yesterday's drive also included 10-miles of on-dirt trail. The end result: This is the first time I've been pain free in years in the 100! I hope I feel the same after days in the saddle...but will know soon with an impending Utah, etc., trip.

I never seem to have enough storage space for the things I need to use frequently especially on the trail. With my new found sewing skills (NOT...still struggling...but learning) I sewed up a little pocket for my pressure gauge, deflators and knife that reside on the DS B pillar. Sometimes its just all about the little things :)
