My last power steering pump would growl unless it was overfilled, according to the dipstick. Try running your fluid level higher and see if the noise goes away.

Mine had it real bad and I had a couple of mechanics look at it the first year I owned the 60, and considered the AU$1000 cost of replacement. Eventually I decided to loosen the pump belt, that wasn't particularly tight, incase the pump siezed as it sounded pretty crook and I was off wheeling for the weekend...
.. and its all good now, hardly ever hear it now
Doesn't lose any fluid any more which I suspect let air in also and caused the moaning.
I suspect the belt was ok tension but the pump likes to be handled a little gentler in its old age
