Well, our little Cruiser co-pilot chased another dog into the highway and got hit. The guy didn't even stop. Rocky "The RockStar" is in surgery now with a broken spine among other things. I know a lot of you guys have dogs so just give 'em a good pat and realize how important it is to control your dog at all times to avoid potential accidents.

Wish Rocky a speedy recovery if you would....

Good luck Rocky and family.

Best of luck with everything

I almost ran over my neigbors dog when it decided to chase a squirrel into the street. Luckily I saw him at the corner of my eye cutting out from between the cars. It's a good reason to keep a dog leased at all times regardless of friendliness. Instinct will make them run anywhere. Hope your dog fully recovers.

Thanks guys. My teenage son is taking it hard. I'm sure it's something he'll remember for the rest of his life. Here's a shot of them up in the mountains when the RockStar was a pup and the cruiser pretty stock.

That sucks I know how it is :frown: my little jack, sugar just got back from the hospital some sort of intestinal thing. When they see something they really go  Last month she got out of her Collier holy cow, she was a block away and across the street in a flash. then she realized
I was not around and stopped.

jacks are tuff little guys he will be OK :)

Wow. All I can say is wow. They performed the surgery and fixed his spine. He's on his way to a lengthy recovery, hot damn! He's lookin' good. After all the "put him down" talk, I'm glad my 14 year old boy did not give up - the clencher was when he told me he'd work all Summer to help pay the medical bills. Never friggin' give up! Thanks again to all you guys for the well wishes.

BTW, I just put this vid up I shot last week of Rocky fetching the newspaper. Let's hope he can do this again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiW-tvOxu4A

Here he is as of 10PM - responsive but drugged up.

Round the clock care, IV, cathedars...looks like the new Slee bumper, Warn winch, and ARB lockers will have to wait. I'm sure there's a valuable lesson in this experience somewhere...

Just reading this and it hurts.

I have a rat terrier and a border terrier. They are my kids, (boy and girl). I know what it is like to have terriers and they are a handful that need constant attention.

I hope he recovers quick. They are so full of energy, I know nothing will keep him down, not even a tramatic injury such as this. Terriers are the best...

Rocky looks sooo cute. I love those pics...He looks a lot like my Pennie, (the rat girl). Wishing Rock and family the best...I know he will be up and running soon.

Wishing Rocky a speedy and full recovery! Had a Malamute about 20 years ago that was hit by a car and it shattered his hip. Vet pinned what was left back together and he recovered very quickly and other than some stiffness when he got older, he did just fine. My neighbor saw it happen and the driver didn't even stop.

sunshine and harley, my two dogs, here in virginia are wishing Rocky a speedy recover....

Thanks everyone so much for your support. Rocky is doing better today, it looks like we will have to have another surgery to amputate his leg. Damn. Well, these little guys are troopers and I'm sure he'll get used to it. The financial side of things is getting to the point that we could use any help we can. We've set up a web site to accept donations if anyone can lend a hand in that regard. We'd sure appreciate it. http://dvestore.com/donate/rocky/

What's the financial damage so far (besides new Slee bumper, Warn winch, and ARB lockers?)

My dobergirl cost me more than I want to add up, but I'd pay it all over again if she could still be here with me. Must be why my rig is still a saggin' wagon.

Lemme get paid & I'll send some $$ your way...

boy im glad hes ok
heres to a speedy and thorough recovery for the little guy

Thanks I really appreciate you helping out....

$ 430.00 X-Ray's, Emergency Visit
$5300.00 MRI and Spine Surgery
$2000.00 Amputation (tomorrow)
--------
$7730.00

Yeah, i know, that is a crap load of money to spend on a dog. it's hard to put a price on a pet, and $5k was about my limit, but with everyone kickin' in, including my son, it's what made the difference to save him. Putting him down would have been an easy option, but i'm sleeping better at night knowing that we really are doing everything we can and not just throwing in the towel.

I'm realizing that there's power in numbers and there is a time to ask for help. I think my son is learning to ask for help through this experience - he was out with a donation can at a local music event this evening. He didn't get much, but i'm proud of him for trying. He knows now first hand that every single dollar helps.

Yowsa, that's some moola. :frown:

Don't know about Jack Russell/Parson's terrier, but Doberman's have a group for exactly this kinda thing (http://www.doberman911.org/). You might check w/local AKC club (even if he's not 'papered') and breed clubs to both pass the donation word and see if there's any national help available.

Best of luck, and I'll try to hit ya w/$ tomorrow before I leave work, if not then Saturday fer sure. Got some side jobs coming up that I can flag as K9 cash.

Good luck, and keep yr chin up!
