SO… My buddy at work has really taken A liking to my Land Cruiser. It doesn't help that he works beside me and has had to listen to me go on about it since last September when it came home.
Well He caught the bug! We started looking around on CL a few weeks ago for him a project truck. We went to Charlotte to look at a 60, and Burlington to look at an 80, just kinda playing the field.
Yesterday while on lunch break, I pulled out my phone and checked CL. Low and behold - a 1996 was just listed 26 minutes earlier! I called (first caller)! It was located in Pinehurst. Said it ran but something was wrong with the axle. 182,000 miles. Lady had it since 2000 Just spent $1000 on cap, rotor, gaskets, plugs, wires, battery, etc… She was throwing in the towel with the axle mishap and was listing it stupid cheap!!
She said, she'd hold it til I could get off work and come look.
As soon as I got off, I went and got my dad's truck and equipment trailer and off to Pinehurst we went!
As soon as we got there, we knew it was a done deal! My buddy was quick to hand over the cash!
Now we had to figure how to load a three wheel LC. Nut had backed off the spindle and wheel feel off at low speed. Pretty much destroyed the bearings, rotor, and hub. Not too bad a fix.
Wheel fell off back in Nov, she had it towed to her friend's body shop where it has sat since.
After a few minutes, the body shop owner showed up and offered us use of his backhoe! Hell yeah!
It took about 2 hours of dragging, lifting, and limping, but we got it loaded just before dark. It barely fit on out trailer! It made it safely back to greensboro. What a fun adventure! We stole this one folks! Time to resurrect!! Here are some pics from the journey! Enjoy.
