My favorite part of the video was the end when I spotted a Speski OffRoad sticker on the rear window corner.
But to answer your original question the 5.7 drivetrain dumps out the front driveshaft on the wrong side from memory to mate to the 80's front axle. That and the 5.7 block is so wide. Slee's conversion uses a early 100 series engine and trans for electronic compatibility yielding a completely seamless conversion.
No, it doesn't drive like a stock 100 from a powerpoint perspective. A better description would be it drives like an 80 series that came with a modern V8. The torque is right where it needs to be throughout the acceleration curve, and it keeps making power long after the I-6 just makes more noise. The motor makes the truck feel about 500 lbs lighter. I have seen Lou's truck in person (the black one in the vid) and the work that Christo and Joe put into the conversion is awesome, everything looks like it came from the factory. I have the 2UZ from Slee in my 97 80 series as well, and it is good enough that for driving satisfaction, it is a toss up between driving this 80 series and the supercharged 1999 100 series that I keep on the east coast. Non vvti is correct.
I wish he would do the VVTI motor with the 5-speed trans and I'd consider it when my I6 is old and tired. But until then the TRD - SC looks to be the better value in my case.
