Pete,
That is exactly where we fish the Ruby, just upstream into the Canyon from the Ruby Springs. We have stayed at Chicks (which is ok), but usually stay at the Moriah Motel in Sheriden (better food in that town) or at the Sportsman (not so great) or El Western (very good) in Ennis.
As for your excuses--Doesn't American have a code-share deal with anybody? Can't you fly to Butte or West Yellowstone or anywhere else nearby? There are so many way to make it happen...
Dave

Dave...

Just checked... American Airlines does not fly there which means no "free" trip for me. You wade the Rudy? Nice work. I have a cousin that guides up there, been there for 10 years now but he works out of this lodge: Ruby Springs Lodge. If you want his contact info let me know but it sounds like you guys go at it on your own. FWIW, I saw him at a wedding a month or so ago and they were already having 50 fish days.

Where is home base for you guys when you are there? Chicks motel in Alder (I think that is where the Ruby is) was pretty decent and then when on the Madison I stayed at that Rainbow Inn which was nice but just camped the rest.

As badly as I want to go to MT this year I think I am going to have to resort to Sunvalley ID (to meet up with the family).

There is some very fine brown trout water downstream and very fine brook trout water upstream of that area...yer a lucky fella.

D

Good wheeling too. There are two lots left if anyone is interested?

Thought I'd bump this thread as I am REALLY committing to getting back in the water this year. I've taken a number of years off and my wife especially is pushing me to get back to it. :)

My in-laws will be workcamping this summer at the VT State Park in Jamaica VT and I was thinking about organizing a camping/fishing weekend for mid summer. They have 41 tent/trailer sites and 18 lean-to sites.

Vermont State Parks - Jamaica

Seems like a good central location to some good fly fishing (it's right near Manchester VT). Anyone interested?

I'm in if I have the time off then, could always run up Sat. night
if you plan to fish on sunday too. Have a new rod I need to try out,
sounds like fun.

i think that place gets hammered pretty hard but its not so say it wont be fun. you can also head up the river towards the NY border where they stock the river... i'm just sayin...

My total last year, 1 perch, 3 smallies, 0 trout.
I've gotten used to catching nothing, but "standing in
a river waving a stick" is still relaxing, especially with
friends.

Send us up some samples of the sunglasses so we can "test" them. You know, 4 wheeling and
fishing glasses all in one.

i wish... i have to buy my own... at a serious discount of course but freebies are impossible to come by these days.

did you check out those sites lane?
Yea, some beautiful pictures! What a life, flyfishing all day!

I was sorting through some fishing gear the other day, and I have some half decent fly stuff. I'd like to fish in Maine a couple times this year. I don't know of much at all in MA.

Finally rounded up all my equipment, my reel had gone missing but has reappeared.

Definitely need a new line... what are you all using these days? I've been out of the scene for a while.

I use a weight forward floating 5 weight. Not sure what brand it is. I'd expect to pay in the
range of $30-$50.
My Dad gave me his Orvis Ultra-Fine 2 Wt. and I need to get new line for that.
Make sure what ever line you buy that it has the loop for your leader already on it.
Saves time and aggravation!

Places on the Miller are supposed to be good.

I rig just like Lane...WF Floating 5 or 6 weight. This will work with nearly the full spectrum of trout flies, from little dries to weighted nymphs. The only exception to this setup would be if you know you are going very deep, in which case I would consider intermediate sink or even full sink.

And the Swift and Deerfield if you like to fish for PhD level fish who know ever pattern you can throw:bang:
the Nissitissit and Squannacook if you want to stay close:)
the Westfield if you want a wilderness experience (I am serious):D
and (dare I let you know?) the Quinnapoxet, Stillwater and E. Branch of the Swift if you want to chase little wild fish in skinny water. :princess:
