great thread...

lane, i am coming up for fishing soon
natick dave, email me the best photos and i will post them for you (perakos at g mail dot com)
jason, you should be pysched... you will be catching some big stripers and blues. also sharks if you go there...

Pete, pics are emailed to you...after you post (TIA), please tell me how to do it right.

Lane, that was a fine day on your backyard stream. I am personally very fond of catching wild brook trout, much more so than bigger stockers...I need a trip to your 'hood.

Which brings me to my final point--my loving and lovely wife has given me the ULTIMATE FATHER'S DAY GIFT, which is not time with my children, but rather time away from them! God I love her! Yeah, I could spend it with Randall in a dingy garage running the grinder, but that is what winter is for. I am planning to fish, only problem is deciding where and for what. Any YTs want to join me?

ps--cruiser content: my number 1 asked if we could take the 40 out
"and just drive around" on sunday (god I love her, too). So we did just that, tooling around the exurban farmlands of our area, and she was laughing and smiling and having almost as much fun as her dad.

Come on out and try for stripers on a fly rod!

I am back at fly fishing this year! Been about 10 years since I was last out. I learned out on the Farmington in Ct. Around Unionville and Satan's Kingdom. It's just like riding a bike, you never forget.

I am back at fly fishing this year! Been about 10 years since I was last out. I learned out on the Farmington in Ct. Around Unionville and Satan's Kingdom. It's just like riding a bike, you never forget.

I nearly drowned on the Farmington around that same spot once. No joke, I was close to dieing. Set out with my Brother for a canoe jaunt. It was way high at flood stage in spring. We had no preservers and at the first "rapids" we went over.

I had boots on and tried to touch the bottom, well one foot got totally lodge between two rocks, I was stuck really good, (bad!). After a few minutes of trying to pull my leg out and fighting the current that was hitting me in the chest, (water was up to my neck), I started to panic.

I realized panic was the wrong thing to do and I tried to make myself relax. I really started to think, holy **** I could die here. No one around, my Bro was about 50yards down river and no way to get to me, canoe was gone.

Well as I relaxed my foot/boot just seemed to come out easily. I was so relieved and freaked. We found the canoe bent in half around a big rock, could not even get to it to retrieve.

Looking back, I/we were total idiots to be there witout preservers and no business there at flood stage. I have since had a healthy fear of white water etc. Really dumb what we were doing.

Yeah, during flood stage I would stay out of Satan's kingdom. In the summer growing up I would float on my butt down the river. That was a ton of fun. If you get a chance try tubing down the river in that area. Way fun!

2 Browns this morning 10-12", one 7" Brookie.
Had a couple of other strikes in a pool we hit alot, couple of big browns live there.
Streamers were the ticket today.

this is killing me! i bet i catch nothing tomorrow but at the very least i will have fun walking the river.

edit - i caught a fish!

Anyway, this pic was taken yesterday from my official 2nd day of trout fishing. I was on the West Branch of the Farmington River last night with my pops. He doesnt fish, he just likes to take pictures. It was so fun. 8 - 10 inch brown.

This was a good night for me because I found the place on my own, selected my own flies, changed my own flies, and added my own tippet. I had 4 strikes. The one in this photo I landed. The first one, did not set the hook in time. The second one, lost it when I tried to get the fish into my hand. Then, after catching some bark on my backcast I had to re-tie my fly. On the first cast, whack, but, the know was wrong and the fish was off downstream with my fly in his mouth.

This might sound obvious and trivial to you have not tried fly fishing. Give it a whirl!

I am hooked! I love it.

Pete that looks alittle bit sketchy fishing with that sort of wildlife!!!

I got to go fishing last week end we headed out for strippers on the ri off the north end reef at Block Island. it was pooring rain but the strippers were practically jumping into the boat for the first half hour then they disapeared. we did end the day by seeing a sunfish what a cool beasty he was.

Pete,

Yer a freaking stud...those Farmington fish are highly educated and have seen every pattern known to the east coast. Nice job on getting hits, much less a fish to hand. Where about in the river were you?

And when do you want to go back???

i was on the west branch in new hartford but not all the way up by the drive in... i forget the exact name of the pool but i remember it well. also, there was only ONE other guy in the pool. it was a sunday evening...

i am not joking... i would consider it this sunday (i am not going to Kina's).

also i want to go night fishing for browns. i hear great stories about that.

No can do, brother...I will be in coastal Georgia by sunday, sipping a cool drink and trying to organize a trip for snapper or redfish.
But I will make it out there with you soon. That river produces even in the summer heat, and I will be dying to go by the time I get back.

dude, there are strippers on and off the coast of block island? i have been there many times and never seen one. only drunk girls at the yellow kitten really sunburned...

I saw those too the wedding started at 2pm and coninued on through breakfast the next morning. haveing the owners of all the bars at the wedding made for no real closing times later. I needed a vacation from that vacation for sure.
i have also spear fished in the channel to New Harbor. never caught anything but I sure felt cool floating in a wet suit with a spear gun. that island has some kewlness to it...
so pete no comment on the pic I retouched up for you in my previous post in this thread?
