Wanted to get some thoughts on a couple of purchase options. What would you lean towards? 2011 LX w/75,000 or 2014 w/89,000? Both appear to be in good shape. The '14 is a one owner always serviced at Lexus right on schedule. The '11 is a two owner with a proven service history that's pretty lacking since the second owner bought at about 30k. The '11 is at an independent dealer and was supposedly the owner's wife car. The '14 is at a Lexus dealer was "corporate owned" and is priced about $7000 higher.

Depending on which styling you prefer of the interior or exterior... I would go with the 2014 with solid history over the '11 with questionable history. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "The owner's wife drove it" I could buy a new 2018...

I have noticed most people always opt for the more expensive option when these questions are asked.....

The rule of thumb is buy the newest and cleanest one your budget allows

$36,900 for the '11 in White $43,900 for the '14 in Silver

I'm gonna drive this thing for a LONG time. I've got a 2004 LX 470 I bought in 2010 that will probably roll 290,000 today or tomorrow.

Another way of looking at it is...

Same $43.9k for either rig:

But that same $43.9 offers major differences.

The '11 could "come with" brand new:
-Slee LX sliders
-ARB front bumper
-Rear drawer system
-New BFG KO2 33's...

The '14:

Bone stock.

Personally I would get the 2011 with 75k miles. The 100/200 series are tanks and built to last, no matter which one you choose. Your 470 is testimony.

The $7k difference between the 2011 and 2014 is too much for me personally to justify getting a newer truck with higher miles; if the 2014 had less miles than the 2011, maybe. Save yourself the $7k and go on a nice cruise with the family ;)

2013+ has; HID headlights (vs halogen), 5 setting descent control (vs 3) , different wheel design, newer front end & grill, LED running lights, smaller less pronounced tow hitch cover.

How important are those things to you?

Not sure I would pay $7k more for them but if you plan on keeping for a long time when you get ready to sell it a vehicle 3 years newer will make a difference in resell value.

This is really tough one for me. I tend to agree with you, and that's the thing, I just don't think age or mileage are nearly as important with this vehicle as it is with "lesser" vehicles. I've put 220,000 miles on my current 470 and I bet I haven't come close to $7000 in repairs in 8 years. From a maintenance standpoint the 570 doesn't even have a pricey timing belt to replace 3 times over that span of miles. It's the service history (and the fact that I kind of like the silver) that's even got me considering paying that much more for an LX with more miles. The '14 has a very well documented service history on the lexus site. Every now and then it was a little late from a mileage standpoint but every one of them is documented every 5000mi.

All true, but throw IPF LED's into the 11 & you definitely won't miss the HIDs.

Planning on a front bumper at any point?
-Then newer front end won't matter.

Wheels from other years are super cheap on Craigslist.

Ok, not really an apples to apples comparison here because I'm comparing a 100 series LX 470 with a 200 series LX 570, but trying to forecast out 5 years and 100,000, the private party value of a 2006 LX with 175,000 is $12,000; the private party value of a 2009 LX with 190,000 is $21,500. Again, I realize that's not exactly fair because there's a significant model change in there that isn't applicable between an '11 and a '14 but the three years difference does seem to easily overcome the mileage difference when it comes to value.

Personally I do not like the LED running lights on the 2013+ they look dated already since the newer LED lighting has seamless LED shaped lights (Volvo, Audi, etc) - not individual LED’s. Agree LED replacement headlight bulbs are the way to go.

Ya, the difference on my 2008 is amazing.
Plus...by default with these, your regular beams stay ON along with the brights, which is really nice.
IPF bumped the Lumens up AGAIN a few months ago, so they are even more impressive units on mine.

That logic doesn't hold up when you're comparing different generations of trucks. You'd need to compare a 100 to a 100 or a 200 to a 200. You can't extrapolate values when you cross over generations. A better comparison would be a 2003 LX to a 2006 LX even though the 2006 has some cool added features and a little more hp with VVTI, but you'll see an insignificant variation in value adjusted for miles. Miles, condition, and history is more important than model year after 10 years within a generation.

2014 for sure for all the reasons mentioned. It also has wider fenders and some other different body lines that make it look meaner. And although I think the interior is now showing it’s age it looks way more modern than the 08-12.

Although if you found a non navigation 08-12 you could get a 12.1 android screen which would help the interior department.
