I decided to get a little "quick and easy" exhaust work done, and it turned into a bit of a $h1tshow. I'd appreciate some feedback on what I should do.

I wanted to delete the resonator and run the pipe up high. Simple. I also wanted to delete the factory muffler and splice in a Flowmaster Super 50. Also simple.
A local shop that has done good basic work on some of my other autos over the years was enthusiastic, confident, and happy to do the work.
I sourced the muffler: a center in / center out configuration based on a comment here in the forum (error number 1, mine).
I also sourced a couple mandrel bent pieces for the tailpipe routing, so the shop didn't have to worry about any bends (they don't have a mandrel). Talked through the tailpipe cuts and pieces with the guy, told him to splice in the muffler. Go.

It turns out that the factory muffler input/output is offset, so it wasn't going to be a super simple cut and splice with the Flowmaster. Rather than call me to discuss, the guy cut out the complex factory-bent pipe that runs up and over the rear axle and put it his own creation (big error, theirs). I learned all this at the end of the day, and quickly saw that the pipe definitely did not clear the rear axle under any compression.
Needless to say, I gave them an earful, explained the importance of that factory routing and the full range of motion of the rear axle, and insisted that it be made right. After another whole day of work, I got a pieced together bit of a mess that MIGHT work.

I'm going to try and cycle the rear suspension (need to get creative in the neighborhood, somewhere) and see if the pipe contacts anything. I suspect the third member will hit the pipe.

I'm also thinking that my LX deserves better than this chopped-up creation--even if it does clear.
The shop was very apologetic and said that if it doesn't meet my needs, they would send the work out to someone who could recreate the appropriate routing. I'm thinking I will have them do this.
Unless I'm overreacting? A few pics for your feedback:

For what it's worth, count this as one vote to
"send the work out to someone who could recreate the appropriate routing"

Almost every project I get into has a phase like this, whether its my f-up or someone else's. There is always regret if the patched together solution is left alone. In this case, I suspect it will be way easier and cheaper to get this handled sooner rather than later.

Yeah doesn't look good, at all. If you're anything like me, which sounds like you might be, get it done right. You're rig is sweet and I agree it does deserve better. I'd have it redone to near factory if possible. I had a shop here put in a Magnaflow and delete the resonator on my wife's LX and am extremely happy. Hope you get it sorted out.

...and knows how to lay a bead. I know the guy probably busted his tail to get your job done...but my Lord...:censor:

Yeah, definitely insist that they get it done right. I wouldn't be surprised if they did that work with their hands tied together while blindfolded. Sorry, but that's pretty shotty.

That is some clownshoes craftsmanship right there.

I can only imagine how many hours were spent on cutting and welding 15 small pieces together to create your exhaust! You'd hope at some point the fabricator would have realized this was not the way to do it right??? Glad they are at least stepping up to have it done right. Looking forward to updated pics.

No comment on the exhaust work:eek::worms:

Im more curious about some feedback on the sound?

Hey Phil,
The sound is actually far more civilized than I anticipated. I had a 40-series Flowmaster on my 80, and this gives the same tone, but far quieter. From the exterior, when idling I'd say the volume level is not much different than stock, but the tone is lower, more of a rumble. Under throttle and acceleration, it's a very noticeable rumble that makes you grin. From the interior, you can hear that the tone is different, but it's not loud at all--even under acceleration. My roof rack makes more noise. Haven't done any freeway drives yet, but I did hold the rpms at ~3,000 and there was no drone.

Cool thanks for the reply
Did you ever cut the resonator off prior to the new exhaust work?
