I found this about 6 months ago and talked to the guy. He still has it available. As far as rust issues it does have some in the usual locations, claims 33,000 original miles, which is accurate b/c my grandfather knew the original owner from way back when. Guy seemed pretty cool and was adamant on selling it to someone that would treat it right. So lets say I had a budget of $10,000 to finish it, not necessarily show quality, is it doable keeping it as original as possible?

2500 seems a little high to me. It needs alot of work for a resto, it has many years of cobbed together mods, and the drive terain is not ideal for a crawler

Ok well all in all I'm just interested in it for a weekend driver, I've got plenty of other projects for rock crawling. As far as cobbed together mods, the top would obviously be replaced, and an aftermarket front bumper built, some rust repair and paint, go through the drivetrain as it's been sitting for a while. Just trying to gauge what I'm looking at. What would be a good offer? Or is it a lost cause?

65's are hard to find. that one looks pretty good,if you have time, and know how yo do body/welding jobs, then i will buy it,keep it all original and the pto winch its a bonus for a nice restore build.

Is it possible to get additional pics of the interior and floor? Body looks good, PTO winch is also a nice option. Part of the soft top bows a plus. If it were running I think it would be worth it, I also live in the rust belt. Not running shoot for $1500-1800.

Factory soft top w/ 33K original miles! Despite the looks with the funky top and bumper, this cruiser is unusually unmolested. Yank off the wooden roof, buy an Ehsan repro top, take a sawzall and grinder to the crap on the front bumber, add paint and disk brake conversion and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not a forum noob and know I can learn a lot from searching but you guys are the experts of the 40 world. I thought I could find out what to look for. I'll give him a call this weekend and get some more pics of it if I can.

x2 to start at 1500 and see were it goes...it looks like a fine rig.

i wouldnt feel all that bad to have to pay 2500...its a great start and alot of good hard to find parts on it...FST :) PTO :)

I bet it will run with little effort

I've bought much worse for a lot more...go for it. Your budget seems very reasonable; some think that 5K will get a showroom resto.

Good Luck!:grinpimp:

Sure seems like a REALLY rough 33k mi!! Good Lord!! Life on a farm, I guess.... Save that poor thing and make it new again!

$2,500 doesn't seem too out of line, considering the P.T.O. and factory softtop bows (assuming that they are factory). Another $10,000 and you may be looking real sweet!

Windshield frame is rotten, hood spear is missing and carb isn't original........ :p Offer what it's worth to you. It really is relatively unmolested. See if he has the doors stashed somewhere.

The Ramsey winch is better than the Toyota. If it has the Toyota box and not the Ramsey PTO, that's the best of both. Oh yeah, it has been worked really hard.

If you haven't figured out what it was doing yet, check the front frame and make sure it's not a twisted torn mess. That's a gin pole setup, and the jacks in front were to support the weight of lifting who knows what. Livestock, fencepoles........:hillbilly:

You can also tell it was being used as a boom truck, but to lift what, who knows? Thats what those things on the bumper were before they were torched off. You can see where they would put those feet down to support the front then crank away on the boom with the PTO winch. All in all was probably a gross overload on the frame and front suspension. Look everything over closely for cracks.

I agree Jim to bad it has the Ramsey PTO :frown: The knob by the head light switch is for the Ramsey PTO. The Toyota PTO would of had the shifter on the floor.

I do think is cruiser has a lot going for for being over forty years. The factory pintle hook is a plus just in the wrong spot.

That is a stock fuel filters. Used from the late fifties well into the seventies. The engines sticker has been reproducted along with others.

I agree that $1500 would be a good offer. Ten thousand wont get you far if you plan on farming out the body work and paint. Good luck however and it sounds like a good project. Mark:beer:
