Operation 62

I visited my 62 this morning at the paint and body shop and thought I'd share some pics.

This quickly went from scratches and rust repair to basically a resto.

Doing my part to save the economy.

So the question I have to answer is do I put those 80's style red and white pinstripes back on?

Looking Good Dave. If you need a place to store that ARB Bumper while your truck is getting painted, I have the perfect truck.... I mean spot.

check into getting vinyl retro stripes made. then you can throw them on when you want and cruise normal when you don't

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Pinstripes are the devil.... i'll sell ya my factory pinstripes from the 60, straight from araco....

If they are stock you could put them back on.

Are they not going to take the ARB off for paint prep and paint?

The problem with the disco pin stripes is, in the words of Forest Gump, it's "one more thang." The stripes are no problem for the shop to put on as they have all that in stock. I think I prefer a clean look.

I don't know if they are going to drop the bumper or not. What I really like is all the new metal and metal treatment in the rear quarter panels! And the modern clear coat - - apparently mine was down to a "few mills" whatever that means. (Could sand it off with a Kleenex apparently) No more nasty gasoline overflow stain!

David, coming back and seeing this thread made me smile. When do you expect it to be done? This does mean you are going to keep it right?

Yep, I'm keeping my 62 despite losing the free garage space at my neighbor's house! I'll just get a car cover.;p

Operation 62 Complete . . .

Just got my 62 back tonight, less than two weeks after I dropped it off. Here is what was done:

1. All rust cut out and replaced with metal and all surrounding good metal treated.

2. 20 years of dings, dents, and d'ohs taken out and leveled with some sort of magic resin.

3. Vehicle repainted and clear coated.

4. Gutters stripped and refilled with 3M stuff, so no future leak.

5. The hole in the roof put in by the first owner patched with metal. (Apparently, the 1989 cell phone required some sort of antenna that allowed communication with russia)

This shop simply rocked! None of that six months and going slow. (Original Look, Marshall, NC)

BeeUUtttiffuull david- I hope you are bringing it tomorrow. Going from selling it to this is a great turnaround. I am having Solid rock build me a rear bumper- I will talk to you tomorrow about it. I think you may like the design, its a little different. I need to introduce you to the polish I use and once that fresh paint cures a good clay bar will really bring the shine out. I installed a radiator barn radiator (myself!) on my 40 and it works great. How hard is this with the ATF cooler?
