Wow. That's a 65k tire??? Impressive. Looks like a piece of a piston ring Sucks.

Well, I do a 5-tire rotation so I guess that's cheating somewhat haha! I have been happy with the wear of these though!

I was hoping to get 75k out of the set but that looks to be cut short due to this finding. Not worth putting 1 new tire in the rotation or shaving down a new tire to match.

Those were my second choice. Ended up ordering 5 Cooper AT3 XLT's. Little over $100 cheaper and got good reviews. I'm towing my motorcycle trailer more now and a more road-friendly tire was appealing.

I do like my AT3 XLT's. Much better on the road and still good for the beach and off-road. I realized I spend a lot more time on the road getting to where I play a little. When I get there I'm not hard core rock crawling and I h8 mud.

That was my thoughts as well. I put more highway miles on the truck in the last year than any previous year I have owned it. Lots of road trips and less and less off roading. Especially getting into motorcycle trackdays, I'm on the road a lot of weekends. Hoping the Cooper will serve my needs better even though I did love the KO2s and have no complaints with them. Was heading towards 75k miles on the set of 5 most likely if I didn't get a flat.

Ordered up a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers for my next set. I've been running KM2/3's the last 10 years. I had a set of KO2s in the middle and hated them in the rain. The RGs are a little more aggressive than most ATs and less than MTs. Hoping it's a good compromis - pricewise they're about $60 cheaper per tire than the KM3s.

Have had my cooper discoverer AT3s for coming up on 5 years now. Big fan, 10/10, would buy again. Pic from dec 3 2015 when I had them mounted and aligned. Hard to believe it's been that long.

As someone that worked at Safelite I can shed a bit of light on this.
@JohnVee call safelite to come out or drop it by my old work to see if they can fill the crack before it expands. The can tell you on the spot if they can do it, BUT it is not on them if it does crack during the fix. They are injecting a resin at very high pressure to get in every part of that crack and it is possible it can cause it to crack more but at that point it would have cracked more anyway down the line. They can then set up a replacement for you.
Most insurances will pay the repair for you with no cost to you so its worth a try.

@BMThiker never heard that before maybe for other companies type of resin, but with how much it rained in Charlotte i'm sure I would have wondered why all our repair techs were sitting around doing nothing for weeks at a time.

@OB-1 the OEM replacement is entirely up to your agent, how much pressure and a clout you can use on them. They aren't cheap at all so don't be surprised if they decline it. In that case they will cover the cost of the PPG or whatever WS they have in stock at the local safelite and you can always opt to cover the difference to an OEM piece. As far as correct installation here is the run down on that. The 80 series has a gasket WS instead of a molding set. This isn't used by any vehicle anymore so it isn't something that happens every day at even a company as big as safelite. It isn't that the 80 is special its that most domesting trucks stopped using gaskets in the 80's so it isn't common. A modern WS is epoxied to the WS frame and then the moldings, that are purely cosmetic, are put on top. A gasket WS has to be epoxied both sides to the glass as well as being "popped" into place which creates pressure. (lots of times the glass can crack purely from this)
Now if you get them to do OEM you should be golden. No company is going to risk an inexperienced tech doing the install and breaking an expensive piece of glass because if they break it on the install they need to cover the cost of the new replacement OEM. (i'm not saying that you may not get someone that only glues one side of the glass to the gasket, that can happen but I can make sure you get a good tech and you can also show them the FSM papers at the same time) If you don't get OEM you can still stress to the call taker that you know it is hard to do. I'd also suggest taking it into the shop instead of having them come to you. Most of the time the shop is full of very seasoned guys, and trainees, that don't want to do the few hundred mile drive every day doing glass. They also make bank in the shop also. Since you are near to Charlotte i'd say call your agent figure out the OEM stuff first, if you ultimately have to go with a non oem glass it isn't the end of the world. The inside of my cruiser is bone dry, despite sitting in charleston through quite a few hurricanes and the swamp thing that was growing on the body and all the seals, and the PPG has been in there and offroaded with it in there since 2013.
At the same time i'll reach out to my old boss and see what good experienced techs are still working at the shop down there so you can request one of them directly.

Thanks for the update Al. I've had a small star right in front of the driver's seat position since I bought the Cruiser in 2012. I've grown accustomed to it and just look past the defect. I have considered getting the glass replaced multiple times but never got around to doing it. Lately I've been chasing noises and noticed that most of the in-cabin sound is coming from the windshield jiggling in the gasket. The windshield also leaks indicating that the glass was never sealed to the gasket. It's PPG glass and while I don't mind aftermarket glass, I am concerned about finding someone that will perform the installation correctly.

I have not spoken with my insurance to see if this is covered or not. Nationwide.

I have some near-new BFG AT Ko2's Load Range C in 265/70r17 on my 4Runner. I hate these tires. Anyone wanna give me a fair price for them? As with so many others, I drive on pavement, do some bunny trails, and hit the beach so want something milder/better for all-round use. I'd love to get another set of the original Hankook ATm's, that was my favorite AT tire I ever ran on a 4x4 - but they've been discontinued and I don't like the updated design.

@Pick have you ever filed a claim with Erie? I've been a customer of theirs since 1996, and they have the absolute s***tiest, worst-ever, horribly frustrating claims experience ever known to man - this is based on 1 homeowner's claim, and 3 auto claims. Between that and some changes our local agency made, I'm shopping.

I haven't... we've only been with them since 2015 and (knock-on-wood) no claims for home or auto. Hate to hear that. Our agent is a very close friend so I'd like to think I could get some assistance if needed but I'm sure their hands are tied at some point

That's nuts. I've had nothing but good experiences with the Erie since '13. Haven't had any house claims yet, but I had a big auto claim where they were super easy to deal with.

Wow Joe, hate to hear that. Long time Erie customer here as well. Have had 1 homeowner (roof) claim, and 1 auto claim (Emma's 80) and a couple of glass claims. They've always been really good for us. Our agent is Brad Bowen in Cary and his office has always been top notch.

To elaborate a bit:

Our homeowner's claim was in Richmond, VA. It took the knucklehead 2 weeks to come out, and he just walked in the house unannounced - saw this brindle pit running at him, screamed, left the door open, and Rex ran right out. Across 4 lanes of traffic, it's a miracle he didn't get run over. Told the guy to knock or use the doorbell next time, you know like every other person in the country, and Rex was harmless/excited. It took another 2 weeks for him to approve the claim. So that was 4+ weeks we couldn't use the main bathroom.

I hit another car in Cary in 2006 in my Tacoma (I was at fault). Not sure how the other driver faired w/r/t claim, but I took my Taco to their body shop, where it promptly sat for 2+ weeks while the body shop waited for approval. Then another week to fix it, so 3 weeks w/o my truck.

When I rolled the 40, I called in the claim. No-one called me back. For several days, I called Erie and asked wtf. I finally called HQ and they gave me the claim #, adjuster + his info. ****er never called me, so I took to calling him daily. About 10 days in, he told me he was working on it: as a stated value claim, what was so complex? Anyway, he still refused to call, so I resumed calling him. One time, he accidentally answered: I told him I'd show up at his office the next day to discuss the claim in person (no violent intentions, I had broken ribs, bones, and healing scars on my face, arms, and legs). He then proceeded to drag it out a few weeks, and mailed me forms - you know, via the USPS, not via this electronical maily-thing I've heard about lately. It was probably 5-6 weeks before he approved my total loss/stated value claim.

We had another claim, same rigamarole - I got angry and just canceled it.

Our agency is Pelnik in Cary. They used to have dedicated agents and ours was great, a few years ago they shifted to call center so you talk to someone new every time. While this is irritating, I don't have to call often. But based on their claims process, I'm done. And we have had home, auto, personal catastrophe with Erie since 1996. They'll be like the cable company I'm sure - "You were such a great customer for so long, why are you leaving now?" A: "Because you suck donkey balls."
