Just 451, hell my d-max is puttin bout 600 down:beer: May have to come down there just to ride in that thing. Josh

Your Duramax is pushing around 2+ tons, that little Cobra will be tipping the scales at ~1 ton.

Hey Jim,

With an engine that breaths that well, have you though about trying a bigger carb?

Later,

When are you coming to the Round-Up?

Where did the dyno video go?

Nice find. When I was a kid my life guard used to take me for rides in his Shelby.Man that was living, that car was fast sitting still, but going down hwy 10 in Little Rock at much over100 was something else. That engine gets very hot you wont need a heater.Put plenty of insulation on that firewall. Have fun. Mike

Dyno said we were using about 780 cfm, so I think we'll hold with the 850 for now. Might do something later with the heads, intake/dual carbs to bump up the HP.

Where did the dyno video go?

Hmmm, I need to take a look at that.

Here's where we are tonight, ready for the body:

This is a good reason to visit other forums.

My dad owned a 1933 ford three window with all steel body, looked like the ZZ top car.

His had a 383 in it, cannot image running the HP you have.............

I wanted this one to stay at or near the stock horsepower of 425, though most guys building these up shoot for 550-650HP. We dyno'd at 451 HP and 482 ft lbs of torque, which was a perfect outcome for me. As-is the car will do 0 to 100 and back to 0 in 13-14 seconds and should have 0-60 times around 4 seconds. All the other 100-200 HP would have done is cost me another $3000 and probably gotten me killed. This engine has a big cam and 10.1 compression, so if I want the additional power later, all I need to do is add a set of ported and polished heads and a 1050 double pumper and its there.

You have plenty of hp to get you killed, have fun be very careful!

Here is the car, just back today from having the Good Year Billboard racing tires mounted. I currently have 550 miles on it and for the most part, its done save a few miscellaneous items. Runs great and is a blast to drive. I'll see what I can do about a burnout video, though I probably should have done that before mounting the Billboards because they are very, very sticky.

Hell yes. Nicely done sir.

Thank you very much. I am quite proud of the beast after 6 months of serious wrenching in the garage. I owe a lot of thanks to my family as they have not only allowed me the freedom to build this, they have ALL participated. Now its a matter of working out various little issues such as an incessant oil pan leak, sidepipe-to-header fitment, the proper cooling fan, suitable ride height etc. It really is a frigging race car and everything about it is barbaric, unrefined, unforgiving and deadly. The car is constantly saying "I want to kill you."

When you cross over into the 100MPH+ zone, you start asking yourself just how good of a mechanic you really are. "Did I tighten all those bolts? Did I check that? Is the safety wire correctly tied on the wheel hubs? Did I remember to....?"

The hole shot is like an aircraft carrier catapult. Dump the clutch and you feel like something exploded beneath you, coupled with the loudest most ferocious roar you can imagine. Zero to 30mph in about 1.5 seconds and within 5-6 seconds you are coming out of 3rd gear at 80. Then you really lean on it and the cam starts rolling in at about 3000rpm, and it starts pulling like a freight train. As you fly past 100mph, the big 427 NASCAR side oiler screaming in your ears, your foot is scared and wants really badly for you to let up. But then you shift into 5th, the rpms drop back to 2800, where you can cruise at 125mph all day long. :steer:

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

That is a great looking car! Good work Brother!

WOW - it looks Fantastic, Iam going to have to make a excuse to see it in person next time Iam in Houston.
