That's a funny looking stubby antenna...

Decided to get a little creative w/ my ARB compressor install. On my last 100 I mounted it in place of the bottle jack and hit it behind the removable panel. Cool, but not nearly as bizarre as this one...

Anyone ever repurpose their passenger quarter panel radio antenna grommet?

For a minute I thought about mounting the entire compressor assembly in the panel but concerned about water intrusion I went with the off the shelf AHC freindly Torfab mount. I only had to modify it slightly to accommodate my single compressor CKMA12.

Turns out with a little soapy water you can jam a 3/8" ID air hose into the antenna grommet.

I was then able to repurpose the old antenna coax grommet to wire my switch through the firewall and into the glove box.

Then I used the ambient light opening as the head start to cutting a spot for the switch.

^^Terrible pic but here you can see the "new" ambient light coming from the ARB switch. For now I'm using 12v from there for both the trigger and the illumination (so need to remember to turn the lights on in order to power the switch.

As an aside - I also looked into repurposing the up/down antenna toggle on the dash since the harness was right there in the same spot. Would have been a cool incognito way to go but I would have needed a custom relay board to process the signal since it only holds "high" 12v while in operation. Also anytime I turn on the radio it would turn on the compressor :-D. Installing the switch in the glovebox at lest helps me maintain my OEM+ build goals.

Thanks guys! Also happy to report the radio signal is also still workable. At the very least just as good as it was when my broken antenna was sitting there in it's home. I can't recall how I've got my Teyes head unit plugged in but it might be hooked directly to the third row window antenna which would explain the consistent meh but usable signal.

Love it, a very elegant and creative solution! That ought you turn some heads when you show up at an event's trailhead! :)

Most Excellent!

Love it! Such a cool use of a useless (for me anyway) hole in the truck!

The compressor in the panel is a good idea as it is a much colder spot. The filter/intake can be remote mounted. They even sell a kit for it.

That’s a very good point!
