On road trip, ahc in low

This happened to us as well on a trip last summer, on the way back I adjust the luggage in the roof top box further forward and only filled the tank to half, we stop every couple hours anyways with kids and dogs so it wasn't an issue.

Yep as said above, try and distribute the weight around. When you get back home safely, and if you're serious about touring, put your money toward a conventional suspension setup and remove the AHC.

Well I made it home safe last Saturday night, was a hell of a trip and got some awesome pics. The ahc rode in low all the way home but as said before it drove fine just the bumps and bad spots in the rode were a bit more noticeable. I'm very surprised with this vehicle. With 6 people and all of our luggage we averaged between 13 and 14mpg which I was very happy with. I am fairly certain on switching to king springs and adjusting the front bars for more weight bearing ability, I'm gonna have to make my ahc last as long as possible because I don't have the coin to do a full swap on my college budget.

The views were incredible and it was nice being in 70 degrees instead of the South Georgia 90-100* for a change.

I get the same mileage with my wifes' 07... 13 in the city, 13 mpg with 5 people and a rooftop carrier at 80 mph.

Yea we didn't cruise at 80, I doubt it coulda gotten anywhere near 13 at that speed, the 2000 4speed liked it more around 65 to 68.

I would highly recommend doing an AHC fluid replacement. I had this issue last year (July 2016) - 6 people in the truck with a bit of luggage and stuck in low with the light flashing. This indicated to me that the system was struggling/failing to level out.

I did an AHC fluid flush and replacement about 2 months later and problem fixed. The AHC now switches between the different heights far quicker, too.

The old AHC fluid was dark brown, almost black, and I strongly suspect that it had never been changed, even though the truck (2001 VX Ltd) has had an easy life, all highway miles - approx. 189,000km at that point. (Sept 2016)

I used this guide: The Toyota Landcruiser Owners Club :: View topic - AHC suspension fluid replacement/flush/service

part number is 08886-01805

I paid NZ$120 (inc. GST) for 2 x 2.5L tins.

Where'd you get AHC fluid from here in NZ? Local Toyota dealer hasn't got back to me regarding its availability. Cheers

Rutherford & Bond Toyota in Wellington, (Kent Terrace branch). They shipped it to me overnight. If you can get hold of Marty Burnside there, he’s the man.
