hey, I am wondering if I can use OME shocks with stock springs? I am one of the few people who don't want lift, but I still want good shocks... every solution i found so far only offered 2" lift...

failing that what are good shocks to get at stock size and where is the best place to get them?

thanks

Felix

if you need stock length shocks...

on a stock suspension...and your current shocks worn out, I'd say get OEM shocks. they are reasonably priced and of excellent quality. contact C-Dan on the board.

if you are you looking 'correct' something else, (lots of body roll, sagging rear end, more carrying capacity, etc), shocks may be only part of the solution.

I put OME shocks on my stock suspension and ran them for a while. I was spending in increments towards an eventual OME lift. I was only using the vehicle for general daily driving and everything seemed to work fine. However, the shock tower on the right front broke off and needed to be re-welded. In retrospect, that could have been related to the travel difference of the OME shock. I decided not to try that again and put stock Toyota shocks on my wife's rig with stock springs. The toyotas from Cruiser Dan are way cheaper too.

x3 Give the OEM stocks a look if you want to stay with stock springs. There are aftermarket shocks too for stock springs. Give or local Napa a call.

Let me beat this drum again, MEAUSRE!!!!!!! DO NOT buy ANY shock without knowung the dimensions required on your rig, both full drop and fully compressed. The refference material for Land Cruisers is frequently and severely flawed.

put OME shocks on the stock 90 FJ62, no issues are all ride is great, 240K on the springs

did the same on my 45LV, had brand new OEM shocks, took them off and put OME on(painted them black to look OEM) much better ride

matter of fact....all my cruisers got OME shocks before the springs

I'm one of the few that doesn't like OME shocks. I think they are a generic twin tube shock that are painted yellow and overhyped and overpriced.

I would look at putting on some Bilsteins instead.

ok, thanks...

on measuring I find it hard to find any data. also sites selling shocks don't really have too much forthcoming either. on that note what is a good place to buy shocks? ton of sites, minimum info. it's either kits/stock or figure it out yourself.

I was looking at some Konis too and that place was selling 1 type only, like a one size fits all. not quite on top of this at the moment.

BTW will buy stock springs, found a place for that, they also have some replacement shocks but they seem to be super-generic
Openads

so wanted to upgrade that purchase with proper shocks. as this was also the only place I found with stock springs at reasonable prices GBP = USDx2.

based in UK but happy to order from anywhere.

thanks

That's great that they have stock spring replacements. I don't know the conversion for 59 pounds to dollars, but here in the states the Toyota OEM replacement springs are pricey- about $500.00 each!!!

I would like stock height replacements as well.

Cool Cruisers had some for a while, but I hevn't seen them on their site in a few months, and wouldn't have trusted them anyways.

Billies have a good rep. Work fine on stock rigs. I have them on my 80, and like them. OEM's though are the best value.

The stock Toyota shocks are good and not too expensive. I have replaced with new OEM on my wife's rig not problem. The next step will be OME greasable shackles. spring pins and bushings which are the stock length. At present, my rig with the OME lift kit rides substantially better than my wifes with new stock shocks but old springs, bushings, and shackles.

My favorite off-the-shelf shock is the Skyjacker Softride Nitro. I liked them better than I liked my Bilsteins out of the box. I run Bilsteins because I can revalve them to my liking which I have done. The Skyjacker Hydros are harsh, I tried those too. And they do publish the lengths.
