I purchased a used OME system from one of my buddies in my fj62. The install went fine but the ride is not what I expected. It seems really stiff in the rear (really bouncy).....I was hoping for a nice smooth ride. I called man a fre and the tech guy suggested that I remove a couple of leafs. The OME set up that I installed has 7 leafs, which I am told is a heavy duty set up. I just need a light duty set up. I plan to disassemble the leafs this week. Does anyone have info on which leafs I should take out? I have been told to leave the small leafs on the bottom and take out the middle ones??? Also, can someone point me to a site that has details on the leaf disassembly (I know I saw it somewhere but I cant find the site again)?

Thanks!

on my 45 and 40 with OME I was told(and did) remove the 3rd leaf from the top in the rear spring pack. But to be sure, give Buddy King or TR a ring at ARB and they will tell you which leafs to remove

Contact Number for ARB

Thanks for the heads up. Would you happen to have a number for ARB? I googled it but kept getting reference back to smaller shops.

BTW-OME are stiff at first. That's normal. Any lift spring is going to ride harder than a stock flat spring. If I were you, I'd drive for a few months and see if it doesn't settle in where you want it. Over time, having more load capacity rather than less is a good thing.

My experience was the same. A few months of driving along with a few camp trips have made my heavies into a more enjoyable ride. Though they are meant to be stiff, it doesn't ride like a dumptruck any longer.

i had the same experience: a$$ high stance and bouncing in the back.

so i called arb. they seemed a little perplexed. finally told me to remove one or two springs but did not say which ones. so i removed two of the smallest from each side. i had the medium pack.

that brought down the stance and softened the ride a bit. but a couple months later i noticed my rear springs were basically doing an "S" number. that didnt look right so i had the largest (of the smallest if that makes sense) put back in.

now it looks right (still high in the back but like someone said in the long run thats what you want) and rides decent but im confused. i have an overload spring by the way which was NOT removed.

why im confused is because now people are saying to remove a middle spring. if thats so how come arb didnt say that (they do handle ome, right?). if their customer service is so highly thought of how come they werent much help?

now the question is, should i put back in the smallest and take out one of the middle ones (eg: third from top) or just keep it the way it is? is there some "magic" to the smaller leaves in the packs? do they serve to keep the pack in a proper arc?

OME Rear Leafs

Well I took the rear suspension apart yesterday and removed two leafs. I took the 3rd and 4th leaf out (out of a 8 leaf pack). The ride is great, but it seems that the rear is sagging a bit now compared to the front:whoops:. I will have to ride it around a bit to see how it settles in....... I might be putting one leaf back in the future (but for now I have had enough suspension wrenching for a while).

Thanks to everyone who posted replys. I will keep you all posted on how it goes.
