Ive got 4 kids and do a lot of camping, i didnt spare too much as far as swap conveniences, as my goal is to have her on the road by April.

Items ive replaced so far include
Reman injectors(benz injection)
Return lines
Upper gaskets
Glow plugs
Waterpump
Smaller dia water pump pulley(DPUK)
T-stat
om648 sump/pump/dipstick
(DPUK just dropped a sick kit custom made and cheaper than what i paid, bought mine a month before it came out unfortunately)
Egr delete
Intake inlet
Doomsday motor mounts
Doomsday 343f>om606 adapter

Some more pics of past progress, i will post todays work later on:

Looks like ill have to make a new post, details to come

My doomsday mount ran into the turbo drain line, so it gave me an excuse to go with something different. I dont have big hp goals. 280hp is plenty for me, my 1fz was in boost instantly and i loved it.

Swan adapter(benz injection), water pump pulley with a fresh belt installed. There are a few things as far as oil pan install that might be a pain, but most of that is well documented on youtube, and my intention is just to let folks know what they are getting involved in with the doomsday kit.

The adapter and instructions were super comprehensive. A minor detail i had to overcome, 5 minutes of Dremel

IMG_2280.jpeg

I had to make a little clearance on the om606 starter due to the longer bolt going through the block, and then into the adapter. He sends slightly undersized bolts to pass through the threaded om block.

I’ve been interested in seeing a swap like this. Are parts for the OM pretty common across parts stores? Why this motor over a Cummins or Toyota diesel just curious.

IMG_2294.jpeg

Motor is out, if anyone wants a nice turbo setup let me know!

I got the 343f separated and my good buddy busted out the purple power, she was sludgy with 278,000 on her. I did a little pressure wash but it was too damn cold to do much. I currently have a transgo kit i will be installing and am most likely going compushift. I like anothernord ‘s microsquirt setup, but i dont think i am as smart as him… setting that up might be out of my wheelhouse.

Best we could get her with this weather…

Welded the EGR, thanks doomsday for the nice little piece of metal he sent. My buddy is an industrial welder, so he got it nice!

the only other diesel i considered was the 6bt. Reasons i didnt go with it

4l80e was the trans choice and then you have to screw with drive lines(i am pretty sure with a very light firewall massage this bitch is gonna use the stock trans mount!!). Or nv4500, which is also sweet, but then source mt stuff, pedal etc
Its a great choice though. I was really thinking about it. I even looked at a 2wd 2500 for like 4k it had like 250 and was super clean. But it was auto, so then adapt 4l80e>hf2a. I know one guy on here did the dodge auto trans, but you hear a lot of negativity about those.
I have to admit though, the power would have been awesome!
Toyota diesel was not considered due to the lack of parts availability should i need it. And damn they’re expensive!
Basic om stuff is available, and more in depth can be ordered nationally.

IMG_2320.jpeg

So i know VNT’s and others out there are more efficient… but this little upgraded ct26 off of my MR2 was sized perfectly for my power goals. It has been a bitch to adapt, admittedly. It should spool well, and i may eventually put a quickspool on if its laggy. My original plan was to run a om hybrid(benz injection), 280hp, but this turbo says Toyota on it. I had to!

And this is where we are at today… sitting pretty
IMG_2321.jpeg

Its not on the mounts yet, but hovering above. I a super stoked to say, i believe this kit will allow a stock driveline. Huge win. But she is kissing the firewall.

These are the motor mounts Joe at doomsday says to get. They fit nicely in the slots. A little then, hopefully this thing runs smooth with the fresh injectors

My questions are currently this:

How far behind that firewall is the evap stitting? We probably need 3/4”

Where or how do you manage custom AC lines?

Any OM guys have steering box clearance(compressor) issues? It may be fine once on the mounts but it looks close!
IMG_2322.jpeg

No experience with a bennzo diesel, however custom AC lines are usually easy. Do you have the lines that go to the benz compressor? you'll need those as well as your OE toyota lines. Go to an AC shop or hydraulic hose supply shop and they can make up hoses in whatever configuration you need. You might have to mark where to "clock" the hoses so the ends are oriented properly. No reason you can't use flex line for both suction and discharge lines, but if you want to get fancy you could bend up hard lines to get them over to the drivers side where the compressor sits. You should also plan on a new receiver drier at the time of system evacuation and recharge. Stoked to see how this turns out! I am going the turbo 1FZ route on mine- but a diesel would be killer too. Why the switch on yours?

IMG_2333.jpeg

And we are sitting on the mounts! Looks like the crossmember is maybe 3/8 short. I think I can manage ok with that. Man the compressor is a sliver of space between the box. Clearancing the firewall helped fanagle it a bit
IMG_2334.jpeg

I’ve obviously got to move some lines around, it looks like it will be a real PITA to get back out. I may just leave it for now. I need to run a comp check still on the motor. I know i should have before putting it in, but i am pretty confident she will be good, and im terribly impatient. It has around 200k, and i bought it from an actual German guy!

Mainly range, fuel economy. I forgot to mention in my initial post i went with the sean tracy ecu to maximize fuel economy and power, rather than a simpler m pump.
I have a 24 gal aux tank… so hoping to get close to 1000 miles per fill up.
Also, i recently rebuilt the top end on the 1fz, all toyota oem. I bet on valve seals being my oil consumption and it turned out to be control rings. Motor has great compression though.

Just a word of caution about the injectors from Benz injection. Three out of the six injectors I had leaked quite badly. I eventually had to purchase an entire new set from another vendor just to get leak-free injectors. I also bought a lift pump from him that was supposed to be rebuilt and it arrive seized up.

Damn, where did you get yours? I hate to be out 500 but I really don't want problems. How did you determine they were leaking?

I got replacements from DPUK. The injector wells filled with diesel. I could see it dripping from the injectors themselves.

you should drill the water pump and run line to cylinder #6 for cooling
also if you going to mess with fuel you should replace prechambers with 8 hole one because if you start screwing with fuel with that pum you will burn that 10 hole prechamber
I read through this thread, STD - https://superturbodiesel.com/std/showthread.php?tid=6666a
I had heard some chatter about this before. In order to avoid extra work: I did install a smaller WP pulley and deleted the EGR. Larger turbo, and am going with a m104 housing, not sure if that matters. I intend to be slightly under max on the EDC pump. 260-280 hp. You think that may be sufficient? It seems like guys with upgraded IP and big boost turbos seems to have this failure more commonly. im still running stock injectors.

IMG_2349.jpeg

So i have done a few little things since the last update. Power steering was by far the easiest. I just cut and reflared my factory line. Stock 1fz bolt threads right in for the banjo/pump side.
IMG_2360.jpeg
IMG_2362.jpeg
IMG_2363.jpeg

There is the option of cutting the hose down to reduce the length, but i would have had to have bought a new hose for that. This shouldnt be in the way too bad.

IMG_2359.jpeg

IMG_2348.jpeg

The m104 is great, definitely removes a lot of bs, and the overall filter size is smaller. I am fiddling with the oil outlet. The m104 oil pressure has a wierd m12 1.25 outlet. I could not find anything to convert to 1/8npt(1fz oil pressure sender).
IMG_2410.jpeg

I took a 3/4 male to 1/8npt malefrom lowes, and die’d it down to the metric size
IMG_2415.jpeg

It worked, but now i am kissing my adapter plate, i ground the back a little, but still too close for comfort. I have a 45 degree 1/8 npt female/female on the way, hopefully it works. Will update on that later.
