Cage is from Up & Over Innovations in PA. Not sure if they're still makin' them anymore though. The guy in charge of the shop when that cage was made is no longer with U&O...

still a killer truck and worth a winter's time in the garage to get it perfect or damn near it.

making progress...

I am bumping this thread with an update on the body work.

Xmas vacation was good to me, allowing for a lot of time in the garage. As you can tell from the for-sale threads, I spent a fair bit of it in the rafters looking for stuff to sell. I can't believe the 2f that was transplanted into my '75 (Loopy) by Zebrabeef, pulled when Loopy was deemed so rusted that he was a hazard to the public, and has been in the garage ever since, is finally gone. I can't believe the sidewinder and the HJ dash and the OEM softdoor and all those other treasures have moved on. It is amazing what dominos start to fall just from flipping a truck.

Vacation also let me make progress on the beloved BabyPoopGreenBrown 40. Thanks to some excessive grinder work by me to make the patches and some very nifty welding by Randall, I was able to progress to the "frankenstein" stage:

Looking good. Are you going to repaint the whole truck or just the areas you repaired?

Ideally, I would only paint the qp's and the left fender, but I have found that my Tower Paint rattle cans produce a color that is somewhat different than whatever Spencer used. Close, but not close enough. However, it did work quite nicely for painting my new pakistani bows. I got this box of goodies from Bull (Rodney) in WA a few weeks back, cleaned 'em up and sprayed 'em as part of my vacation in the garage. I am very impressed with the bows, can't wait to pull the hard top and set it all up.

Even more progress

Back to the body work. Frankenstein was prettied up by the angle grinder and sanding disc. The results look good, but, of course, many pinholes were revealed on the edges of the welds and they will have to be addressed by additional welding or some lead.

Lookin' good ND. Fun welding swiss cheese eh? My Millermatic doesn't work so hot on the lowest setting. That and my thin metal welding abilities leave something to be desired.

NAPA Auto on Rte 1 in Foxboro does custom paint cans too for $14.

i think the paint show the PO got the paint at is out your way... newton maybe? want me to call him?

Peter,
That would be great. I thought that the shop (spencer?) got the paint, but maybe Brad got it locally. Any info would be helpful.
Thanks,
Dave

I would fire the welder :flipoff2:

Looks like somebody sneezed all over that patch! :D

I would spray some undercoating around the inside of that corner, after you clean it all up etc. Just as added protection from stones, sand and stuff coming off the back tires.

Hard to fire a volunteer!

As for the undercoating, that is definitely in the works after all is done and cleaned and dried.

Oh, you meant updates to the truck!

I did some work on Olive, too, but sure had fun (and less back ache) building the wheel.

I cut out the bad part of the ps qp, and this time the whole thing worked out better for a few reasons. I was much more aggressive about cutting back to good steel. I made the fit my patch panels much tighter and much more even....getting the curve right was a little more challenging, but it came out well. And Randall got the welder working better for this light duty work. All this is making me consider reworking the ds qp to make it as good as this side. Anyway, I ground it down last night, no pics yet.

I also opened up the hole in the fender and we tacked it to the support...should hold the mud better and it will definitely will be solid.
