Oil Weight for Colorado Spring Time

I am finally getting around to changing out some fluids- oil, t-case, tranny, etc... I am looking for recommendations for oil weight. Clifford is just shy of 200K.

Also- any thoughts on the best filters. I know- there are a ton of threads on this one. But I figured I'd ask while I was asking about the oil weight.

I just switched over from Rotella SB 0W30 (winter) to Rotella T dino 15W40 for the "summer". Plan to run Rotella syn. 0W40 next winter. I use the napa -1515 filter (made by Wix) in tandom with an Amsoil bypass filter.

Just switched over to Royal Purple fully syth 20w-50. Not one leak.

Ok so I just picked up some Rotella 15W40- also grabbed some not-so-cheap syn gear oil- planning on hitting my transfer case next... filter, all that junk. Got home, got under the truck and realized that the plug is way bigger than the biggest socket in my woeful set.

I am wearing a bright newbie heat here... so, advice? Looks like I am going to need some tools, what do I need?

This will work, the official size is 24mm.


Go get a nice set of 1/2 drive Metric sockets and make sure they are 6 point sockets, not 12 point.

Use a heavy duty oil. The Rotella is a good choice, or Chevron Delo 15w-40. Even a 20w-50 would be great as we head into summer.

When you do the diffs, check to make sure your breathers are breathing, that will help your axle seals survive longer.
