I notice that the oil pressure on my 83 60 goes 3/4 up on the gauge in idle, is that normal?

I don't know much about the FJ senders, but I do know the HJ senders often give trouble.
My '87 HJ61 was showing very low pressure on the factory gauge but temporarily fitting a mech gauge proved there was plenty of pressure.
I pulled the sender apart (it was a fairly new one) and there was a broken wire inside.
There is a wire wound resistor in there and on one end the wire was broken.
I attempted to solder the break and managed to sorta kinda almost stick it back together.
I think it may be some sort of aluminium wire as it is quite brittle and solder does not want to stick to it.
Like I said it sorta stuck so I put it back together and it worked.
That was quite a while ago and the gauge is still working fine.
A mechanical gauge fitting is really a good idea for these vehicles I reckon.
LOL!
I don't know what island you live on but a new sending unit costs around $5 here.
The wiring for the sending unit in an FJ60 goes the long way around the wiring harness. That is why most people put in a mechanical.
Huh?
I've already said that I think it is a good idea to fit a mechanical gauge, and down here on the "island", I can tell you that there is very little chance of buying a new oil pressure sender for a diesel cruiser for anywhere near 5 bucks.
If I could have bought a new one for that price I certainly would not have been trying to fix the broken one.
