Good afternoon y'all

My oil pressure gauge upon starting immediately pegs out past the H. This just started recently and operated properly until my last 2 start ups. My limited knowledge of this vehicle brings me here to get your ideas on the cause. My thoughts are either a short in the circuit from the pressure transducer to the gauge or a faulty transducer. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Or the gauge went bad is the 3ed option. VOM to check the wire and the sender. Oil pressure is too important to risk on electronic gauges IMHO, so I installed a direct read one.

Where did you get your direct read set up that fits the oil sensing port and if you don't mind can you please send me photos of your set up?

I just put a "T" between my oilfilter housing and stock sender, ran a hose thru the firewall to the dash gauge and it works!

Ok so I did this about 1986. The "t' fitting on the block came from a wrecked Aerospatiale helicopter. I re-threaded one port to do standard American pipe tap from the British. I carry a pipe plug for that port in case the nylon hose fails. I made the gauge mount from a chunk of aluminum sign. I ran a piece of fuel hose over the nylon oil line from the back of the gauge to the engine side of the fire wall - that way if the line broke I wouldn't get a face full of hot oil. I think the gauge and the hose were from the local parts place like NAPA. Oh and I wired it into the dash lights for night operation. At one time I had the oem sender also hooked up but it started leaking so I took it off.

The thread size for the engine block oil pressure sending unit is 1/8" BSPT. (British Standard Thread Size). If you are installing an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that has a 1/8" NPT thread into a Toyota engine block you need an adapter. The threads are very close but not the same, trying to screw an aftermarket gauge into your block will do damage or leak. McMaster-Carr sells Tee Fittings 9151k275 Brass T 1/8" BSP

I have contacted CCOT where I purchased the original sensor to determine the thread size size and type. It appears to me to be 1/8-27 MIPS. If this is the case I will purchase 90° adapter to JIC male and run a stainless steel braided line from the oil cooler to the dash gauge.

Thanks for the information. Very helpful Green Bean. My sending unit screws into oil cooler housing.

Thanks for the photos

I have scoured the internet and found lots of gauges but no sending unit and oil lines. Where did you obtain your unit?
There is no sending unit for a mechanical oilpressure gauge. The gauge itself senses the oilpressure via the tube.
