Greetings,
I am a newby to the landcruiser fraternity and have been reading with interest and some amusement the voluminous information about lancruisers on the internet, but nonetheless, please forgive my virginal knowledge of all-things-landcruiser...to the question...
I have owned a 1986 hj60 (6-cyl, diesel, automatic, 311,000 km) for 2 years and love the truck. Recently, the oil pressure gauge stopped deflecting. My mechanic took the lead off the sending unit and touched it to ground which caused the gauge to deflect. He concluded the problem is with the sending unit. I changed the unit, but unfortunately made the mistake of installing a look-alike 12-volt unit, which immmediately melted my gauge (very sad) when I started the truck. I replaced it with a new Toyota gauge for ($111.24 cdn!!! ouch). I reconnected the black and yellow lead wire to the sending unit and it is now deflecting %100 when the ignition is on but the motor is not running (which it shouldn't do as I understand it is a variable resistance unit...means the wire grounded I presume). I am now thinking the problem is not the sending unit? Any clues as to how to solve my problem? I don't want to stray too far from home without the pressure reading even though the engine is running great, as usual.
