Not sure how many of you do your own oil changes, or have a different oil change schedule as your Toyota Dealer, but either way you know how anoying it is to have the "Oil Maintenance Required" warning showing on the screen. I now know how to get rid of it, and reset the system.

Step 1: from the ODO button above the left side of your steering wheel, you scroll to Trip#1.

Step 2: press and hold the ODO button to reset Trip #1, keep holding and shut the rig down

Step 3: without letting go, turn on car - but DO NOT ignite (foot off the brake pedal, and hit "Start" two times - and the system will start the reset. You can now let go of ODO button.

Step 4: it will go through reset and then say complete...Once it is complete, it will be ok to start the car.

I use AMSOil and run a K&N filter, so don't take it to the dealer for a change. All is done in the home garage. Real easy actually...the biggest pain is dropping $17 for the socket to the oil filter, and taking the front skid plate off and putting it on each time. Other than that, it is no different than any other car or truck. I was so happy to find out how to reset this, as I have had it in front of me for the past 2 oil changes...that and it switching to "Checking Tire Pressure"!

Good info. Thank you. My Screen has been asking me to change my oil for 600 mile now. Just checked the oil and it still looks new (clean) you should be able to go 7000 before changing it. What do you guys think?

does the K&N filter come with the neat little drain fitting that is inserted before you remove the cover?

Just curious.....

Nope, straight up filter and gasket...all one piece.

You have to take your front skid plate off???

Yeah, what a pain...I thought they had service holes, but you just can't get the wrench and socket in to remove the oil filter. Also, oil can spill on the plate as it flows out.

Hmmm...I wonder how the service department does mine. You can't remove the front skid plate anymore...it's bent and locked up tight in there. It also takes a jack pushing against it to get it back on. This allowed me to overlap the ARB plate, which most shops remove when using the skid plates. I still have both.

They probably don't change your oil filter.

I'll find out in 800 miles when I take it in for the 15K service. This time I'll ask for the old one.
