I hope I am not going crazy - but can anyone confirm the location of the oil level sensor on the upper oil pan? If you have one, should it be located next to where the dipstick goes into the pan (passenger side, right above the drain plug)? I thought the sensor was standard but I’m starting to think otherwise now....

Mine is a 2010

My 2013 LC200 has the capacity to display a "ENGINE OIL LOW" warning message that "may appear if the vehicle is stopped on a slope" so I assume it has an oil level sensor that came standard, but I have no idea where that sensor is located.

HTH

I thought the engine oil low message was triggered by low pressure. I know that this implies the message is dumbed-down but they are dealing with the lowest common denominator and many different languages.

Doesn't sound like the same thing, but at one time I owned 2 cars that had the exact same 3MZ engine, an '05 ES330 and an '04 Highlander. They were seemingly identical in every way, except that the Lexus had the oil level sensor, but the Highlander did not. I seem to remember it was right next to the crank pulley.

The oil pressure sensor is on the front side. I was in techstream and was not seeing a data test option for the oil level sensor. Went underneath searching and couldn’t find it. I think my model doesn’t have it unless I am blind.

The pressure sensor, however, is there in data and can be tested

It looks like there is both an oil level sensor and oil pressure sensor.

Pressure sensor is just above the oil filter

Level sensor is above the oil drain just above the pan

Looks like I thought wrong. I have never seen that message. I have wondered if my tilt on certain trails was an issue. Looks like it was not.

Yeah, I'm going to double check the junction connectors. I wonder if that explains the change in oil capacity that occurred around the 2010ish model year? Different top oil pan for the sensor? All I know is the 2013 cluster I'm swapping is NOT pleased that there's no oil level sensor reading!

Dragging up an old thread - does anyone know if there is an obd2 pid for oil level? Can't find one. I suspect like pressure there isn't one because there is a warning for it. But figured I'd ask.

Curious what kind of data you would like to see. Seems to me the oil level sensor would be a binary output - there either is oil present, or there is not oil present. ON/OFF, YES/NO, OK/NOT OK.

If the status is negative, then there is a warning light/message for that, right?

Most vehicles, yes. Others have an oil level measuring sensor, but that is usually mounted in the bottom of the pan and is a tall module with a float switch inside.

With the 3UR sensor apparently in the side, and appears to be too small a hole for a float switch with any significant throw, yes ours is most likely on/off.

Per the parts diagrams there is an electronic oil level sensor all the way back to 2008, but it says clearly "MEXICO SPEC".

Up through 2011 there were two part numbers for the upper pan, with the second 'MEXICO SPEC' number being what remained the only option on US 200s through 2020, though after 2011 they dropped the mexico spec designation.

Mostly just curious about what Toyota does and does not expose via OBDII
