I noticed that my truck (97 lX450, 105K miles) is seeping some oil from the area where Cruiserdan had his major leak/issue, see attached thread:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=8239

It never dripped to the floor of the garage, so it is really minor leak not a major one, nothing is showing on the oil dip stick (always normal), but I can see where the oil is seeping from (again see the attached thread for exact location).

My question is: how many of you have this leak currently in your trucks ? how many miles ? and when should I really address it before I break down on some highway.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

I you had a problem with that galley plug you would have oil all over the place. It does not seep, it pours.

Is your front axle housing covered in oil and is it leaking all over the ground?

Rick,

That's funny the Lexus of Watertown contacted me last week about why I no longer service my truck in their facility, I told the Service Manager kindly about the front axles saga in summary, he apologiesed and asked if he can be granted another opportunity to service the truck in the future, I declined gently and he understood.

Dan,

Good to hear from you, it is not pouring at all, it is just seepage, I would say it is enough to stain the metal, I cleaned it up with Brake Fluid Cleaner to have it come back after a 50 miles trip or so.

It is coming from the location you described in the pictures you attached in your initial thread.

I am worried that it might let go and starts to pour at some point....your thoughts...

Thanks

Al

Dan,

Failed to reply to your second comment :

( Is your front axle housing covered in oil and is it leaking all over the ground?)

The answer is NO, the metal behind the timing chain cover is stained with oil, I cleaned it once and after a short trip (50 miles or so) it got stained again, a sign of seepage, but it is not dripping to the garage floor nor my front axle housing is covered with oil.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks

Al

I doubt it's the galley plug.

Possibly the timing chain tensioner gasket, timing cover gasket or front crank seal. Primary suspect, tensioner gasket.

Thanks Dan, I will have my Mechanic take a look at it and I will report on status later this week.
