Hi Guys,

I have an oil leak that I am Trying to trace, it drips off the bottom of the transmission bell housing.
I first thought it was the oil pan or rear main, but I have replaced the pan gasket and the flywheel is clean, and there is no oil fling, so I would assume the rear main is O.K.
One thing I have notice is that I have a leak on the side cover gasket at the back, but cannot see any oil running down to where it drips.
Is it possible that the iol is running between the block and the trans adaptor plate?, that is the only thing I can think of.
anyone have any othe ideas?
Thanks

Could be a transmission input shaft seal.

I just finished chasing down the exact same symtom! If your leak is on passenger side & is not the pushrod cover gasket it is very likely the expansion plug for the camshaft. My leak appeared above the timing window on the bellhousing tight to the block. Used a mirror to insure it wasn't dripping from the pushrod inspection cover. Then pulled the tranny(bellhousing transfer case). When my motor was rebuilt a "long" expansion plug was installed which ended up making contact w/the camshaft.
By the way get the new plug from toyota. After 4 trips to NAPA I ended up ordering from toyota ($4) & toyota got it wrong the 1st trip too. ( new parts guy)

I an pretty much certain it is the pushrod cover, I change the oil yesterday and installed fresh, I then claened down the engine and ran it a while.
I could actually see the fresh oil leak from the side cover, but wasn't sure if it could make its way down to where it was dripping, but I guess it must be able to, it has to go somewhere.
Afer a short run the drip on the bell housing was a mixture of old and the new oil, so it looks like the I have found the cause,
I will put it on the 'TO DO' list, and will probably do it at the same time as the head gasket.

The push rod cover is a metal access plate that runs along the right side of the block behind the distributor.
