Hi everyone, this is my first post. I just bought my 1985 Landcruiser last month after looking for one for about a year and a half (so far so good). I took it to TLC in Van Nuys for inspection and some services (Carb float replaced and ground fuel shut-off switch, valve adjustment, serviced tranny, front and rear diff., replaced rear output seal on Tranfer case, replaced Power steering pump). They told me I had a small oil leak from my oil pan but that it wasn't that bad. Since I've
had the truck it leaks oil after driving, the oil was dripping from the Flywheel cover so I removed it and that leads me to my post. Where is this oil coming from??

P.S. this a great forum. Also this truck is the first car that I am really learning about how engine compents work, all my other cars have been newer. so far I bought the Toyota 2F maual.

Tranny shaft seal looks like to me. Oil pan maybe moist but doesn't look like the rear main. Judging by the way it is slinging off the clutch housing.

And welcome to MUD!!!

So is this engine oil or transmission fluid?
Now that I remember TLC (Jay) also said I had something with my transmission, but he said It would be okay for now, He said it would be a big job ($$) i'm assuming cause the tranny has to drop. Do you think this what he was talking about?

looks like gear oil. Front tranny seal is the most likely culprit. Just keep driving it till it needs a clutch and then you can easily swap in a new seal.

Well then I guess I should check my tranny oil how often??? (it leaks about a quater size, when I drive it, which is 5 days a week).

Check it every three or four months. That is a very small leak.

looks like there is some antifreeze in there too. is this just dripping down from above???? I wouls also assume gear oil as well. It does look like an oil pan gasket as well. Try cleaning the whole area in the clutch housing. be cautious of solvents on your throw out bearing as this is a sealed unit that can loose grease from solvents. Once it is truly clean, the laeak will become more visable.
Welcome to mud!

Ditto on what Alaska60 said, looks greenish, like coolant. Gear oil has a unique stink to it, so it's not too difficult to know it that's what you're dealing with. If it's not gear lube, it could be the rear main or the pan gasket.
