My fathers 93 with 170,000 on the clock has had a minor oil leak for the two years he has owned it. His mechanic told him its loosing oil at the distributor o ring. Repair to the tune of $2300. I have searched with no luck. I am 150 miles from the rig so no pics. Any ideas.

That area had a bunch of oil on my 93 due to the valve cover gasket leaking. Changed it out and cleaned it up. No leaks. Check the valve cover bolts to see if they are tight.

I think mine is leaking there also. I'll try to snap a pic tomorrow.

overhaul gasket kit

I saw the estimate and the dealer is recomending a overhaul gasket kit with 30 hours of labor. Will someone explain what this includes.

An overhaul gasket kit includes all gaskets and seals needed to overhaul the motor. It's just a guess without seeing the truck, but I would say it's probably overkill for a leaking distributor! Are they recommending a full engine reseal? Are they replacing the headgasket?

Sounds like a ripoff to me. You can screw this up by reinserting the distributor off a tooth on the gear, but any mechanic could do this in about 10 minutes if he took a 5 minute coffee break during the job. The part can't be more than a couple bucks.
