Hey guys, today i found out my oil filter is leaking, i changed the oil and the filter last saturday (19 oct), i didn't notice the leak until today, so what i did was have the truck taken to the shop where i got the oil changed, they removed the filter, and everything seemed to be okay, good gasket (seal, i dont know the exact name in english) and the filter, well new, after talking with them they put in another new filter, both are aftermarket filters, even though the one i got put last week is the one i've used for a few years.

so took the truck home and let it be, there was no sign of oil leaks, this was about 4 or 5 hours ago, just went out to check and again, another pool of oil coming from the filter, what can this be? the filter seems to be nice and tight, the car rode home nice, didnt overheat, and the oil presure was more stable, unlike when we took it to the shop.

What should i do? i can get some pics if you guys want some, the dip stick shows that the oil is almost full, could having too much oil cause this leak?

Did the gasket from the old filter get left on it accidentally? Sometimes that happens and it can cause leaks. Hard to notice sometimes if you aren't looking for it

not sure, i doubt the same mecanic would do that twice, me being my dumb noob self, how would i check? do i need to take the filter off?

Take the filter off and inspect to see that there is only one filter seal in place. If you let the truck sit for a while and allow the majority of the oil to settle in the pan you shouldn't loose to much oil when you pull the filter.

Also, what brand of filter did they install?

Only time I've seen that symptom is when, as Darkness and 94Runner states, the old o-ring from the filter gets stuck on the block. Just remove the filter and carefully inspect the block and the filter. There should only be one gasket and it should be attached to the filter.

I had an oil filter blow apart at the seam on a motorcycle once. But that made a huge mess, and you probably wouldn't get far if that was the case since oil was just pumping onto my garage floor. Point being, use a quality oil filter. Toyota OEM filters are fine, if they are available to you.

well its dark right know so id rather wait for tommorow, have nice light, im guessing that i won't loose much oil over night. hopefully it will just be a gasket that got stuck on the engine and at the shop they didnt notice.
right now i dont have the brand name but i will post it tommorow, and well i wish i could get OEM stuff, but damn do i live in a hole, nearest agency is about 4 hour drive away.
