So i was out washing and waxing the 80 today. Trying to keep the aging truck as nice as possible. I dont ever plan on letting go of it, it just wouldnt be worth it. The only way its leaving is if i wreck it. Nevertheless, i was checking my oil and remembered the odo had just rolled over 243,000 the day earlier. The last time i had changed the oil was at 237,000. So 6,000 miles and the tight old engine hadnt burnt or leaked a single drop of oil. Not very techy but i just wanted to let you all know. At this rate i dont see why the 1FZ wont see 350k before its first rebuild.

If you have NO consumption, you may what to do a UOA. I did one on mine and I have fuel in my oil.
You could have fuel entering in your oil at the rate that the oil is consumed.
If all is well, your motor will last to 600,000+mi/

ok, are you saying you don't have a weepy main seal at 243k? That would be very impressive.

drive 100 miles down the highway and see if you still have no oil use. That will burn off all the gas in the oil.

Landtoy80,

I am using mobil 1 synthetic. I mean, when i check on the diptstick there is no evidence of alot of consumption, it may be using some but for the most part, its nothing i have to worry about like on the 60 which burns and leaks oil like crazy. My engine is totally dry on the bottom, doesnt leak anything. I dont think i have a problem with gas in the oil, at least i hope not. the cruiser has been with way for years now, just doesnt seem to leak or burn anything.

OK, so it uses a tiny bit... Thats better.
I thought it was strange that a motor could not use ANY oil :)
I ran M1 Ow40 and my motor drank it when I would drive it like a race car.
The RotellaT syn doesn't have that problem. I use 1 qt for the first 3000 mi BUT I have gas in my oil so that may increase my consumption, some, I think, I will find out, when I replace the injectors and find time to do it....

oil

I must admit, my LC 4.5 does use a little oil between changes, never really measured how much, but not excessive, on the other hand, My lexus soarer V8 with 100,000 miles, did not use any oil at all.

I also had better results w/ Rotella T synthetic 5w40 vs. M1 10w30 in a 19 yr old 22re w/ 182K mi w/ new valve seals installed at 125K mi. Consumption is very low w/ Rotella, plus the M1 dropped my fuel economy by 5%. Same results in a newer honda engine w/ 25K mi (drop in fuel economy, increased oil consumption w/ M1 10w30).

Regardless of the oil, consumption seems to increase w/ rpm's. On road trips at 70-75mph on the interstates (say, 1500 mi over a few days), consumption might be 1/2-1 qt. But driving to/from work (45mph, low rpms), consumption is practically nil, even after 1K miles. I guess at higher rpm's, more oil leaks past the seals?

My 1FZ has almost 300k on her and it really doesn't burn any oil either, but the rear main or arc oil pan leaks enought to spot a drop, but it never falls to the ground.

I'm running Shell Rotella 15w40 (unburnable...ha!) and do tons of HW driving.

On the flip side even thou it has almost 170 psi across the heads, I don't think that I make anywhere close to stock HP anymore. I think once lately I got up to 90mph going down hill.

My LX450 with 87k is the exact opposit of this. It consumes 1 quart between 1 and 2k if I drive in my normal heavy bumper to bumper traffic. I do this about 200 + miles a week. If I go on trips at speads of 70MPH+, it will consume no noticable oil even after 1,500 miles or so. That makes me think I also am having a fuel issue. One of these days I am going to get an oil analysis and find out for sure. I met someone from a local dealership that seems to be very nice and reputable that I may let hook it up to the Toyota computers and see what they find. Although per the dealer and the owners manual, some oil consumption is considered normal??

THanks

Andrew
