OH CRAP! Bet you never had this happen before!

I've had two lithium battery starters swell up and break the case. The first one was replaced by the company last summer, and the second swelled up on my Zion trip last week. I usually keep it plugged in inside the console.

I think the manual says good up to 120F, but we know it gets a lot hotter in cars here in Phoenix. Certainly makes the case for continuing to keep jumper cables in my kit.

Luckily no fires yet, I guess I've been lucky.

I have a couple in my rigs too. Great idea thx for the heads up

I got the one from Costco and have been watching it. It has not grown in size yet.

I used the one in my truck as recently as a couple weeks ago, just for charging my phone while I was away from an outlet. It was fine. When I looked at it on Thursday when I got to Zion, it was swollen.

The thing is, if you wait for it to swell up, it could be too late. @Azca used his just the day before, I think, and it was fine

The one I purchased from costco spent all last summer in the rig. That being said it came out this year before temps started to climb. Lion batteries do not like excessive heat

I accidentally ran over my Antigravity XP-something a couple years ago. On pavement, in summer, where it sat for almost a week before I realized it. Still had a good charge so I used it to jump a couple times. After the next recharge, it swelled up slightly. Then more. Then more. Then “s**** that’s huge”. They gave me a good discount on a replacement even though it was about 4 years old. No problems with the new one but it hasn’t seen the use of the old one yet, and it hasn’t lived in a vehicle, either. I’m hoping for the best because it’s a damn handy tool to have. Runs a usb tent fan for 3 nights, easy.
