I understand the topic of tire sizes is covered ad nauseam but I have a very specific question about wheel offset. Understanding that > +25 is the sweet spot which offset gives you the least chance of rubbing and needing to do even the slightest adjustment a +25 or a +35? I’m thinking it’s +35 as it’s closer to oem. Debating between a 285/70/17 +35 vs a 275/65/18 +25. Im guessing the 18” tire/wheel should clear fine but trying to understand if it’s pushed out an extra half inch will increase rub potential. Again trying to eliminate any mods even removal of small front of wheel wind flap. Cruiser is bone stock. Thanks for feedback!

If keeping the mud flap is important I’d stick with the narrower 275 and a 35mm wheel.
Thanks! When you say mud flap are you referring to the small one on the front of the front wheels or the larger one behind the front wheel? Trying to work with the 316 or 703 method wheels in gloss titanium. Not much options thanks!

The one at the rear of the front wheel well

I currently have Method 305NVs +25 on 285/65/18 and planning on going with Method 703s +35 on either 285/70/17 or 285/75/17.

Will report back with my findings. Trying to avoid anything beyond a slight relocation of front plastic fenderliners.

Oh and the truck will also get a 2.5" lift with UCAs. But otherwise I do not want to cut anything.

For those size tires, you should be looking more at +45 to +50 offsets.

Between what you're proposing, +35 everyday.

It'll fit better, but more importantly, it'll drive better with more handling and traction, especially in low traction environments like rain and snow.

Ok thanks! I plan on lifting 1.5-2" in very near future too but the the lift won't help unless you're stuffing super tall tires into the wheel well.

Thanks! Just to clarify, which will drive and handle better? Unfortunately, I haven't seen any wheels in the Method or Black Rhino that are more positive than +35

I have +35 and wish I had more + offset as my paint gets trashed from tire sling when I off road (often) and winter roads. But I’m running 17’s in the summer, so the only OEM option is RWs and those things have pretty much turned unobtainable.

I’m running 285/70/17 on my +35 and had to rework the rear inside of the wheel well with a drill, hear gun, and zip ties, I moved it all about 2-3” If you go any larger tire size you will have to remove the mud flaps.

That's helpful cuz so many say that 285/70/17 fit with no modifications except maybe removing the small wind deflector on the frontside of the wheel well. I'm also surprised to hear you're getting sling with +35 as so many state that +25 is flush. Are you running spacers? Thanks

Most people don’t do a few thousand miles a year off road like I do. No spacers. The outside of the tire is defiantly outside the wheel well

@coleAK answered it.

To add, offset is integral to suspension geometry, but is also driven by overall tire diameter. Higher offsets will be better for the quoted tire sizes above. +25 is more optimal for a larger tires like 37s. Just because +25 is normalized here, doesn't mean it's ideal, but it's obviously workable. The degree of which offset deviates from optimal, will start inviting things like handling compromises, cornering traction, tire wear with scrub on tire shoulders, driver fatigue with a busier steering wheel, pull/push with uneven road surfaces and high acceleration and braking, the list goes on.
