you know with all this aggravation that I had to endure about my OEM roof rack, there is one thing that has stayed in the back of my mind, yet I never articulated it that I recall, and I don't remember seeing it here either:
and that is that considering how sloppily these racks were put in, given how small the nutserts are, how little lip they have formed when tightened, and how many appear to just plain pull out when one tries to remove the rack; well, I would be wary of putting too much stuff up there on an OEM rack in case the guy who put it in was in a hurry and the serts were improperly put in. Would not be good if you're on the freeway, the thing flies off, and gets the car following you to end up in the ditch...

I would be careful with that thing! At the very least, check the nutserts for proper installation, and then put very little stuff up there to minimize aerodynamic forces...

yes!

And thought this might save somebody from losing a rack. Unlikely but never know.

Would not be good. Unless of course the receiving car is one of them speeder kids... :D

I've hauled up to 4 sea kayaks on an OEM roof rack at 75 mph for hundreds and hundreds of miles many many times. Never had a problem. Quit dissin' the OEM roof racks.... :D

Hey Eric -- you get that head liner back in or is it still in the hallway?

Ok Todd, I'll diss'em. They are crap, but Eric does spend too much time worrying about them.

nah, was only in the main entrance hallway for a couple of months... surrounded by a bunch of obstacles for people not to step on it. I thought it was kinda cute, but the wife didn't think so... Wymin...
