you know with all this aggravation that I had to endure about my OEM roof rack, there is one thing that has stayed in the back of my mind, yet I never articulated it that I recall, and I don't remember seeing it here either:
and that is that considering how sloppily these racks were put in, given how small the nutserts are, how little lip they have formed when tightened, and how many appear to just plain pull out when one tries to remove the rack; well, I would be wary of putting too much stuff up there on an OEM rack in case the guy who put it in was in a hurry and the serts were improperly put in. Would not be good if you're on the freeway, the thing flies off, and gets the car following you to end up in the ditch...
I would be careful with that thing! At the very least, check the nutserts for proper installation, and then put very little stuff up there to minimize aerodynamic forces...
