Hey All

Found several threads showing the OEM factory roof rack delete kit, which i will be ordering shortly.

But i havent found any threads where someone actually used and installed it....?

Anyone here done it and can confirm that water intrusion is a non issue?

Thanks

I do not know about a "kit" but the OEM parts are available to order and there are no leaks as this is designed by Toyota not a hack. You already have one of the rack anchor points using the needed parts (look for the small plastic cover in the channel).

There is an OEM kit.

Asking for actual first hand feedback of those that have used it.

We all know not everything, even from factory works as claimed. So that’s why I’m posting and asking:

Here is a link to it off of Amazon:

Like many items, it probably depends more on proper install than anything.

There's less parts to the delete kit than an actual roof rack, and many, many people have no issues with full rack installs. I wouldn't worry about it.

Also, I don't think that's an official Toyota "kit" (no Toyota kit part number), I think it's just a collection of OEM parts that the seller (autopartsdirect) is selling as a kit.

Couple random thoughts for you.
1. I have seen people claim to reuse the factory bolts without known issues. However, I would not recommend this. The shorter bolts are to prevent damage to the airbags that sit below the roofline.
2. I always go back and watch Tim's (gamiviti) videos if I need a refresher before I get into it.
Removal -
Install - (2 - 3 min mark)
3. No leaks will depend on cleaning and sealing. I have had the rack on and off several times and never had an issue with water intrusion through the factory rack holes.

Good luck

Thank you very much for the real world feedback

Noted and appreciated

The parts look solid and I can't see any issues popping up. Treat it like installing an aftermarket roof rack based on technique and sealant and you should be golden.

I have the oem roof rack kit on my LX no issue at all there is no mpg increase but there is no leaks. I have used Toyota/Lexus roof rack delete kits on all my suvs and there has not been a single issue of leaks. As long as you don't he-man things there will be no problems.

I forgot to mention clean the spots very well so there is no dirt or debris that can mess with the seal. Just use a small detail brush and a vacume at the same time so it does not allow the stuff to fall into the headliner. There should be o-rings at the bottom of the brackets that go around the bolt and mate up against the roof of the truck, be careful to not crush them down to much or pinch them in the threads when tightening things down.

Tq specs for the bolts are 30nm or 20-21 tq.

The plastic cover pieces have small clips on the back make sure they are seated correctly (they are direction oriented and have arrows showing which way they should be facing) and don't slam them down. If you try to force them on there it will bend the metal and make it so they pop off when driving, going through car washes etc.

I would put a towel or something similiar on the roof to put tools on because you will go to set a rachet down etc and scratch the truck.

Slick top looks so good. Now figure out how to delete the spoiler so I can copy you. :p
I don't think that is possible. I think the spoiler is key in preventing water intrusion.

Looks like this is no longer available.

I'm very interested in removing the roof rack at some point - can someone confirm whether part numbers would be the same for a 21?
