I have looked on the site and a lot on installation but my question is: Is the only place to get OEM rear shocks at the dealership, or is there on on line site that sells OEM at a cheaper price?

Also has anyone used the DIY Texas, Austin location? Thinking about trying it our to do the install of the shocks.

Lowe Toyota. Ask for Beno/Onur.

But why go OE? KYB from Rock Auto would be the equivalent for a factory ride.

Correct me if I'm wrong but OE is only $40 from Lowe. And it's OE.

Had no idea. Just assumed OE was $$$. Don't get me wrong, I go OE on just about everything. I've just never known OE shocks to be economical or firm enough for my tastes.

Yep, when it comes to shocks, if you aren't lifted then stick with OEM. High quality and good price.

Yes, I do not see any reason not to use OEM? The ride is fine for me and since I am not lifted and have very few mods I like to keep as may part OE as possible. I have removed my running boards, put front mud flaps on, cranked my torsion bar, tint, a little bit bigger tires, Husky liner floor mats (front, back and rear) and changed out several of my bulbs with HID's.

That's enough for me now as my rig spends more time on the highway then then at the ranch, beach or trail.

Not sure what Champion Toyota you dealt with in Texas but I just called Champion Toyota of Austin on IH 35 South and they quoted me $56.03 a piece for the shocks and that is me just going in and picking them up, no shipping.

Hey Suprarx7nut, are you sure you got OEM's and it wasn't just Champion Toyota parts of Texas and not a dealer?

All four corner OEMs from Lowe shipped for under $140, which was a great deal when I did mine.
They come with bushes, bit not the upper and lower washers. If your originals aren't badly rusted you can clean them up and reuse them, but I'd buy new with the shocks next time.

FWIW, replaced mine after over 200K miles. Lets just say that ride and handling improved dramatically.

Cruiserpart.net has OEM for $40.00 each front or rear. I recently purchased and installed front since I had oil all over the bottom shock body indicating it was leaking. When I pulled out the shock was expecting it not to rebound once I compressed it as I thought if it lost oil it probably lost the gas charge. well, I was wrong, rebounded just fine. I guess the only benefit was a nice looking new pair of shocks in my case.

I'm at 208k miles and have never touched the suspension. I assume new shocks would make a huge difference, although it rides fine now. I guess I just don't know what I'm missing.

There's a thread somewhere that recommends new shocks on a Hundy every 50k miles. Maybe that was just the front shocks though?
