I recently purchased a rebuilt power steering gear box and it is stamped TOYODA (yes, that's a D not a T). I tried to do some research, but the info seems sparse so I thought I'd ask the experts. Is that an OEM part (it's supposed to be which is why I ask)? Also, what other manufacturers did Toyota use for their parts such as DENSO.

Aisin makes a lot of OEM parts, but your Toyoda part is OEM as well, albeit rebuilt with unknown components.

I'm not the guy to give this history lesson, but the family name was Toyoda, and it was changed at some point on the marketing for the vehicles. I think the TEQ thing plays into this story somehow as well.

That's pretty interesting. I read a little about Toyoda Industries, but couldn't really find the connection. Thanks for the response.

TOYODA spelled out in roman characters is the maker mark for companies within the Toyoda Industries group. If you go pull a power steering pump from a brand new Tundra, you will see the same marking.
Steering related parts marked Toyoda are originally manufactured by JTEKT/Koyo. I don't know who did/does the reman parts for this application, but I guarantee that is a JTEKT unit. Same supplier is still used today for power steering systems whether they are electric or hydraulic.

For that matter, the OE birfields were made by Koyo.

This is why I love this forum. Knowledgable people who take the time to share what they know. Thank you.

OEM birfs are actually made by Aichi Steel Corporation.
