Curious if anyone can help me shed light on this;
I have two rigs, one a 1HD-T (from a J80), and then a 1HZ in a J105. Fairly similar engines in their exterior layouts, some part crossovers, etc.

Looking at upgrading the alternator in the 1HD-T. Per partsouq it's an 80A # 2706017170 from '92-95 "1HDT..HDJ80..ATM 12V 80A";

Looking at the 1HZ/J105 options, they can have either 80A or 120A, although the 80A is a different part # than the 1HD-T above. Unsure what's actually in my J105, appears maybe the electrical connector is different than that on J80 1HD-T;
80A # 2706017220 "1HDT..HDJ100;1HZ..HZJ105..ARL,GCC;1HZ..HZJ105..LHD..GEN 12V 80A"
120A # 2706017230 "1HDFTE,1HZ..HDJ100,HZJ105..ARL 12V 120A"

Anyone know if I can replace the J80 80A # 2706017170 from '92-95 "1HDT..HDJ80..ATM 12V 80A" with the J105 120A # 2706017230 "1HDFTE,1HZ..HDJ100,HZJ105..ARL 12V 120A"?

Thank you in advance.

There's also another option - the 27060-17180 100A alternator which was fitted to 1HZ engines in some regions. I have one here. I can tell you from experience, the higher amp output alternators are physically larger (to make room for those extra windings), and require a different shaped upper mounting bracket as a result. Don't just look at the alternator itself, look at the mounting bracket, as you'll have to change that too most likely if you're changing amp rating. I did a small write-up on some alternator options for these engines in the 80 series lineup here:

As for connector compatibility between 80 series and 105 series variants, someone else will have to speak up about that, but I suspect you could confirm easily enough by looking at pictures of the physical connectors, and for extra peace of mind, cross-checking the wiring diagrams in the service manuals.
